Location: Beth Sholom Congregation, Elkins Park, PA 

Reports To: Executive Director 

Schedule: Part-Time (20-25 hours/week)

Position Summary:

Beth Sholom is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to serve as its new Finance Manager. This part-time role will report directly to the Executive Director. The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial management and accounting functions of the congregation, including budgeting and financial reporting. They will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Treasurer, Finance Committee members, clergy, and other staff members. The Finance Manager will work particularly closely with an administrative staff member who handles deposits, reimbursements, invoices, and congregant account updates. They will also occasionally collaborate with the Assistant to the Preschool Director on preschool billing issues. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to solve problems effectively and diplomatically. They MUST have strong attention to detail and be able to work in a collegial and supportive environment, engaging with staff and congregants in a respectful and professional manner. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a central role in managing the congregation’s financial operations, while contributing to the synagogue’s warm and inclusive culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Finance Committee, ensuring alignment with the synagogue’s mission and goals.
  • Manage accounting functions, including the preparation of financial statements and ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data.
  • Interface with ShulCloud/Kesef account representatives and utilize ShulCloud Accounting Software for managing financial tracking, reporting, and congregant billing.
  • Provide regular reports on the financial health of the congregation, including forecasting, cash flow management, and budget variance analysis.
  • Prepare and present financial reports for the Board of Directors and relevant committees, including the Finance and Investment Committees.
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure accurate billing and collection of accounts receivable
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure that expenditures are appropriately authorized and in line with the budget
  • Serve as a resource to the Treasurer and the Executive Director, providing support for fiscal control, regulatory compliance, and budget review meetings
  • Participate in timely and accurate completion of annual financial compilations
  • Ensure that the congregation’s financial activities comply with applicable laws and regulations governing non-profit organizations, including IRS and state requirements.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate internal controls and procedures for financial operations.
  • Analyze and assist with annual insurance renewals and changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferably in a non-profit or faith-based organization.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks and accounting software; familiarity with ShulCloud/Kesef and Bill.com is preferred, but willingness to learn is key.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work collaboratively with staff, clergy, and board members.
  • Ability to make informed decisions, solve problems diplomatically, and maintain the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Comfortable working in an inclusive, faith-based environment with a commitment to the values and mission of Beth Sholom Congregation.

Additional Information:

  • This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Optional and occasional evening or weekend hours may be available, if desired, to assist in staffing special events or holiday services, as needed
  • The role will be based at Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, PA.
