Who We Are:

Moishe (pronounced moy-shuh) House is what being Jewish in your 20s is all about. Launched in 2006 when four friends began hosting Shabbat dinners in their home, Moishe House provides a space for over 70,000 young adults around the world to create meaningful, welcoming Jewish communities for themselves and their peers each year. To date, there are more than 150 communities in over 40 countries, and we’re still growing!

Base empowers the best rabbinic leadership in North America to build a new type of pluralistic, communal rabbinate. From within their home and neighborhood, the Base rabbinic couple works together to cultivate an authentic experience for young Jews (22-35) seeking a meaningful outlet for learning and community. Base rabbis, like the populations they aim to serve, come from diverse backgrounds and are committed to fostering relationships with Jewish young adults that add meaning, purpose, and joy to their lives.

This position will lead the Base in Miami. The prospective Rabbi will complete the application by submitting their resume and cover letter in one document, and their partner's resume in a second document. Any invitations to interview will include the Rabbi and Partner.*

Who You Are and What You’ll Do: 

• You believe in the Base model and the wider Moishe House mission of creating community for young Jewish adults.
• You bring creativity, vision, and resilience to your engagement work.
• You have a clear vision for the Jewish world that you want to share and an entrepreneurial spirit to actualize that vision.
• You’ll build the local Base Community through:
  • Building one-on-one relationships with at least 180 Jewish young adults over the course of a year.
  • Reaching at least 500 unique individuals by offering them a variety of immersive Jewish experiences along the four Base pillars (see below)
  • Inviting young adult Jews from your community into your home for Shabbat and the Jewish holidays (4 meals per month on average), creating and leading dynamic learning opportunities including classes and retreats (6 learning classes per month and one retreat per year), facilitating community service and civic engagement projects (one per month), and providing pastoral counseling (15 conversations per month), while meeting specific metrics for each.
  • You’ll build connections with community members based on repeated, substantive, personal experiences, so that at least 40% of individuals return on a regular basis.
• You have an Authentic Jewish Personality, and model how to live an integrated Jewish life while inspiring others to do the same.
• You’re a Relationship Builder, capable of building rapport and developing meaningful relationships with a wide variety of people.
• You are an Informal Educator, experienced with the theory and practice of informal/experiential education. You’ll use that knowledge to model and teach others how to create the most effective opportunities for meaningful Jewish experiences.
• You are knowledgeable and a Life-Long Learner, providing a reservoir of Jewish content to share, while simultaneously pursuing continued education and ongoing growth and development.
• You’re a Strategic Community Organizer, determining how to best reach and impact young Jewish adults not currently involved in the traditional networks, and utilizing community organizing methodologies for success.
• You’re a Self-Starter, highly motivated, driven to succeed, reflective, and open.
• You’re a Team Player, energized by collaboration and working in dynamic relationships with individuals, organizations, and community partners.
• You have an Entrepreneurial Spirit, asking questions, trying new approaches to Jewish engagement, and demonstrating a willingness to take risks in order to actualize your vision for strengthening Jewish life.
• You’ll lead and organize an annual grassroots fundraising campaign to raise local funds.
• You have a bachelor’s degree in any related field; four additional years of full-time experience may be substituted for the degree.
• You have Rabbinical Ordination, preferably having completed formal training and graduated from a rabbinic seminary.
• You have 2+ years professional work experience through full-time employment, and/or internship experiences.
• You bring experience working with young adults, and a proven ability to relate to individuals in this developmental life stage.
• You have demonstrated success working within informal education frameworks.
• You currently live in a shared home with your committed partner who serves as the Base Partner.*
• You’re able to prioritize and balance multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
• You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Salesforce or other CRM preferred.

The Fine Print:

The Base Rabbi is supervised by the Base Program Director and is an integral member of the Moishe House team and Base Movement. The Base Rabbi receives ongoing support from the Base National team, including:

• Monthly gatherings with the other Base teams and Base rabbis
• Participation in the Annual Summit for Base teams
• License and training for Salesforce CRM
• Contributing to Base Movement projects such as the Base Teshuvot and other thought pieces, publications, and research reports
• A dedicated supervisor for coaching and direction as needed
• Access to Spiritual Direction

*The Base Partner is the partner of the Base Rabbi and serves in a role critical to Base’s success. Base is about welcoming young adults into a shared home and modeling what vibrant home-based Jewish life can look like. We welcome Partners from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds to this position.

Base Partners serve as key thought partners in the building of the Base community, and are expected to be an enthusiastic co-host, helping with planning, preparation, and hosting of events and gatherings (an average of 15 hours per week) and are compensated $20,000 per year for their contributions. To the extent partners want to provide formal programming, we welcome their Jewish (and other) expertise.

Partners:

• Serve as a primary thought partner for your local Base in building and developing the Base community, including formal and informal strategic planning discussions (3 hours per week on average)
• Co-host guests in your Base home for Shabbat and holiday meals (4 hours per week on average)
• Organize service opportunities for the Base Community (2 hours per month on average)
• Welcome new Basers into the community through one-on-one coffee meetings (2 hours per month on average)
• Help with preparation, planning, and hosting programs (5 hours per week on average)
• May teach and/or facilitate Jewish learning classes or gatherings, if qualified (requires significant previous experience) (2 hours per week on average)

How Moishe House Pays You:

• Moishe House’s starting salary ranges are based on education, experience, location, and skillset required for each role.
• Starting salary range for this position is $85,000 - $90,000.
• Housing Stipend to cover up to 50% of rent, exact amount TBD and will be based on market rates. 
• Annual merit-based salary increases.
