Position Summary

The Manhattan Division is a dynamic team within the Fundraising Resource and Development Division that focuses on innovative ways to reach donors and build community. The assistant will support general Manhattan Division fundraising efforts as well as The Center for Youth Philanthropy and Leadership (CYPL).  CYPL is an opportunity for families with children in 6th grade through college to engage in the work of UJA in meaningful, hands on ways, including individualized bar and bat mitzvah projects, a teen foundation board experience, and volunteer events.

The Manhattan Division seeks a proactive, motivated, and flexible person to provide essential administrative support to the professional staff within the various Manhattan Division portfolios including general fundraising, events. This individual is also responsible for supporting CYPL programs: Give a Mitzvah – Do a Mitzvah, Mitzvah Squad, Mitzvahs and Milestones, the Philanthropic Advisory Council for Teens, and UJA on Campus.


Major Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate and assist with department events and activities
  • Work with team on ways to improve efficiency
  • Maintain records of past projects and create systems to record project history
  • Support meetings and other programmatic elements related to CYPL
  • Manage all logistical preparations for monthly PACT programs as well as annual events
  • Manage calendar and files
  • Screen telephone calls, check department email inbox, and respond to situations as appropriate
  • Process payments and donations
  • Prepare wire transfers
  • Work with web team on setting up webpages for CYPL participants
  • Become knowledgeable and proficient in use of UJA systems including our fundraising, grant making, and purchasing systems
  • Send weekly updates to CYPL and GMDM participants
  • Draft and send acknowledgement letters
  • Work events on as-needed basis
  • Assemble internal and external mailings
  • Write proposals for volunteer and funding opportunities within CYPL
  • Help prepare for committee meetings and other meetings throughout the year
  • Manage and update committee lists in our fundraising database
  • Manage general Manhattan Division fundraising events
  • Help with Manhattan Division general needs as they arise
  • Be an integrated and involved CYPL and Manhattan team member


Qualifications and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment
  • Self-motivated
  • Bonus: Interest and experience working with Jewish youth
