Kulanu is the religious school of the Orangetown Jewish Center (OJC, Conservative) in Orangeburg, Rockland County, NY, just over the NJ/NY border, off the Palisade Parkway. We are an experiential, project-oriented program with highly-committed rabbis and parent body. The students are enthusiastic and engaged -- a mehaya! We are looking for a combined K - 1 teacher once a week on Tuesdays from 4:15-6:15 pm. Classes are small and there will be a high school aide on some or most days. There are no classes on Sundays.
Teachers should be creative, nurturing, have a strong background in Jewish Studies and Tefillah, and experience teaching the primary grades.
Experience differentiating/teaching to a range of levels is a plus for this position as they will work on Hebrew reading on two slightly different levels.
The Kulanu Director provides guidance and support in all areas and the Assistant Director is responsible for logistics. There is a curriculum and Hebrew reading textbooks and materials. Lesson plans are created by the teachers with the support of the Director. There is communal davening at the beginning of class, music class every day, and a break for snack, which is provided. The faculty is warm and collegial. Faculty input is valued in planning special programs and faculty feedback is important to us in improving the program.
Salary is commensurate and includes a faculty orientation meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 4:15 pm, a monthly staff meeting from 6:15 - 7 pm, a brief email to parents after each class, and two newsletters and progress reports a year.
Please send your resume with a cover letter in your email. I look forward to speaking with you!
Rabbi Kniaz, Kulanu Director
