Description

According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in six children between the ages of 3 and 17 (or about 15%) have one or more developmental disabilities. Because of the growing rate of students needing accommodations and adjustments in their learning environments, the CJE is looking for an experienced educator to teach, enhance, support, and enrich the school experience of special needs students using various creative arts (music, movement, art, drama) in the J.N. Somers Yad Hebrew School for Students with Differing Abilities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a special needs creative arts educator for the J.N. Somers Yad Hebrew School for Students with Differing Abilities for students ages 4-22.
  • Works with CJE Director of Special Needs Education and Yad Hebrew School faculty in planning and facilitating classroom and school wide lessons for Yad students.
  • Develops and builds relationships with school faculty, and community partners.
  • Communicates with families of students with disabilities as needed.
  • Plans and executes creative art (music, movement, art, drama) lessons using different modalities and teaching methods such as, project-based, experiential and student-centered learning.

 

Qualifications and Success Factors:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Special Needs Education, required.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in working with special needs students; experience and skills or equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and skills required.
  • Passionate educator with direct experience in special needs education, formal or informal Jewish education; familiarity with synagogue school education and early childhood Jewish education
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team.
  • Ability to motivate others.
  • Should possess an active understanding of the Jewish world, religion, tradition, and values as well as general pedagogy.
  • Hebrew knowledge preferred.
  • Must be able to pass Level 1 background check required.
  • Must be able to work off-shift hours including Sunday mornings and some evenings, as needed.
