About The Well The Well is Metro Detroit’s innovative community-building outreach initiative. We create and foster accessible, inclusive, relationship-driven community for young adults and families with young children. Harnessing the power of Jewish wisdom and ritual to help individuals flourish as human beings, we believe Jewish community, ethics, values, and spirituality should be directly relevant to our lives, empowering us to positively impact the world around us.

About Temple Israel Our mission at Temple Israel is to create an inclusive center for our sacred community, framed through the lens of Reform Judaism. We are authentic and caring, fearless and dynamic, home to many different types of individuals and families searching for connection and meaning in their lives.  At Temple Israel, we invite you to join us in experiencing our vibrant and enriching environment. Our doors are open to welcome you and provide opportunities for you to engage with our community.

Position Overview We’re seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and outgoing self-starter to join our team as our next Director of Young Adult Engagement and Woodward Corridor Programs! This role is ideal for someone passionate about building Jewish community, forming deep relationships, and creating meaningful, engaging programming.

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $60,000–$70,000, full benefits, administrative support, and professional mentorship from Temple Israel’s clergy and leadership team.

What’s New at The Well? The Well is at an exciting turning point. On July 1, 2025, The Well will transition from an independent, Temple Israel-sponsored organization to the official young adult engagement arm of Temple Israel. This new structure provides an incredible platform to expand Jewish life and community in Metro Detroit — with the backing, resources, and reach of one of the country’s leading Reform congregations.  As such, The Well—Powered by Temple Israel will serve all young adults in the Woodward Corridor, West Bloomfield, and all communities between and beyond in Southeast Michigan.

Our ideal candidate’s strengths include:

  • Building authentic relationships across diverse backgrounds and levels of Jewish knowledge or observance
  • Connecting people with one another and creating a culture of belonging
  • Planning and executing engaging programs and events, often in collaboration with partners and lay leaders
  • Balancing multiple projects, timelines, and communications
  • Being active and creative on social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Leading small groups, facilitating discussions, and speaking in front of a crowd
  • Thinking big while handling details, logistics, and follow-through
  • Taking initiative and solving problems with enthusiasm and creativity

What the position entails:

Engagement:

  • Conduct one-on-one coffee dates in your first year to discover our community

  • Identify underserved groups and create engagement strategies to reach them
  • Represent The Well and Temple Israel publicly at programs and community gatherings
  • Participate in Temple Israel staff meetings and collaborate across teams

Programming:

  • Design a diverse calendar of programs in partnership with participants, volunteers, and Temple Israel staff
  • Build partnerships with local Jewish orgs and young professional networks
  • Promote programs via social media, email, and word of mouth
  • Attend and help execute The Well’s programs, including setup, takedown, and material prep
  • Dream big: help innovate and evolve our program offerings!

Skills and Experience You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience in programming, event planning, or community building
  • Prior experience in Jewish communal settings strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Comfort working a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Willingness to help with all aspects of event execution, from schlepping supplies to greeting guests

What You’ll Get Out of It:

  • A front-row seat in shaping the future of Jewish life for Metro Detroit's young adults
  • Mentorship and supervision from Rabbi Josh Bennett and Temple Israel’s senior team
  • Administrative support to assist with logistics and execution
  • A full benefits package: health insurance, paid vacation/sick time, retirement contributions
  • Generous professional development opportunities, including conferences and learning cohorts
  • Flexible hours and local hybrid work structure
  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace ($60,000–$70,000 depending on experience)

Start Date: July 1, 2025
