We are excited to welcome a warm and enthusiastic individual to fulfill the duties of Coordinator, Early Childhood and Apachi Day Camp (part time). This person plays a key role in supporting the daily activities of our Early Childhood site at Am Shalom JCC (Glencoe) during the school year. Additionally, during the summer months, this person supports the daily activities of the Apachi Day Camp site in Northbrook. They will provide administrative and logistical support to the EC/Camp Director, as well as provide exceptional customer service to JCC families. The Coordinator will develop strong relationships with children, families, and JCC staff as they offer support throughout the year. Summer hours will be M-F 8:30AM – 2:30PM and school year hours will be 9AM – 12:30PM. Occasional evening and weekend hours per program needs.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Early Childhood – Am Shalom JCC
    • Embody JCC’s Early Childhood philosophy with passion, warmth, and integrity to parents, colleagues, and children.
    • Become proficient with Kaymbu, Salesforce, and Outlook.
    • Warmly welcome and greet parents and children on a daily basis.
    • Engage with new and prospective families through engagement programming.
    • Shop for weekly needs for school during business hours.
    • Actively participate in department and agency-wide events.
    • Provide support in the classroom when needed.
    • Maintain timely and effective communications with parents at all times to ensure a quality customer experience.
    • Lead the school FIG committee.
    • Coordinate substitute process for teachers.
  • Apachi Day Camp – Northbrook
    • Embody JCC’s Camp philosophy with passion, warmth, and integrity to parents, campers, and colleagues.
    • Become proficient with Camp Minder and Outlook.
    • Warmly welcome and greet parents and campers on a daily basis.
    • Maintain timely and effective communications with parents at all times to ensure a quality customer experience.
    • Shop for weekly needs for camp during business hours.
    • Actively participate in department and agency-wide events.
    • Provide support in camp groups when needed.
    • Manage Lost and Found.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Essential Job Duties/Physical Requirements:

  • Lift/move children up to 40 lbs.
  • Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods throughout the day.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as phone, computer keyboard, calculator and standard office equipment.
  • Repetitive movement of arms and hands to operate computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Vision: must be able to distinguish between colors, shades and brightness with ability to focus.
  • Move from sitting (chair and floor) to standing position easily and quickly.
  • Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children.
  • React with physical and mental alertness in emergency situations.
  • Use hands for grasping classroom equipment and play material.
  • Supervise children by sight and sound.
  • Diaper children in accordance with DCFS requirements.

Days/Hours/%Travel: 

  • Must have reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
  • Summer hours – M – F 8:30AM – 2:30PM
  • School year hours – M – F 9AM – 12:30PM
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours per program needs.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or related field preferred.
  • 18 hours in Early Childhood college course work or willing to obtain credentials, preferred.

Previous Experience:

  • Previous experience serving as a Lead Teacher in an Early Childhood classroom preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with emergent curriculum and outdoor classrooms.
  • 2+ years within a Reggio Emilia inspired school highly preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish culture and values preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) required; demonstrated ability to communicate warmly and effectively with children, families, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage own workload with attention to priorities, timelines, and deadlines.
  • The ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality a must.
