Reports to:                  Director of Membership Engagement

Overview

Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1,700 households. We are bustling with activity: we serve over 200 families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 800 students in our Religious School, and hundreds of people each week who walk through our doors to pray, sing, learn, connect and mark life cycle moments.

The Program Associate manages all aspects of program development and planning for Temple committees and provides logistical support for Temple-wide programs and events. The Program Associate is expected to work an average of two evenings and one weekend day per month; flextime is offered. He/She/They are an integral part of the High Holy Days team and will need to be able to work on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Essential Responsibilities

Programming

  • Manage all committee programs (including MoTRS and WoTRS) and Membership Engagement programs, including maintaining the Temple calendar, building registration forms on Zoom or Eventbrite, designing and submitting room setups, managing catering and ensuring AV/IT needs are met
  • Update Temple website with committee program and registration details, photos, and other relevant details
  • Implement clergy and senior staff plans for Temple-wide holiday programs, managing non-worship logistics
  • Create, organize, execute, and staff Membership Engagement initiatives such as Feed ‘Em Fridays
  • Serve as Zoom host for significant congregational events (ex. Congregational Meeting) as needed
  • Maintain relationships with program vendors, including sourcing and contract management
  • Train lay leaders on various resources: Zoom Squad, calendar request form, Google programming site
  • Support 2-3 meetings a year of committee chairs to review planning processes and past programs
  • Track member engagement analytics: updating our database to reflect registration and/or attendance
  • Support ongoing program evaluation process in collaboration with clergy, staff, and lay leaders
  • Maintain orderliness of programming closet and keep an up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Actively participate in professional development through PEP-RJ (Program and Engagement Professionals of Reform Judaism), sharing new and innovative program content from across the country

Administration

  • Provide occasional coverage of the Temple’s main phone line
  • Serve as part of the Temple’s High Holy Days team

Other related duties may be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor and/or the Executive Director

  • Strong written communication skills, a stickler for accuracy and detail
  • Self-motivated, proactive, comfortable working independently, thinking critically, and taking initiative
  • Comfortable working on a fast-paced team, able to respond to last-minute changes and requests
  • Sensitivity to confidential information and the appropriate maturity to exercise discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint); comfortable using a range of software including Zoom and Adobe Suite, and databases like MM2000
  • An understanding of synagogue life, Jewish holidays, and customs is a plus

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-3 years customer service, program management, or related work experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for 2-3 hours at a time
  • Ability to staff programs and events that require long periods of mingling/interacting with people
  • Ability to serve in a public-facing role to support temple events as needed
