Beacon Hebrew Alliance (BHA) is a progressive, warm, welcoming and inclusive Jewish community in the Hudson Valley - Beacon, NY. 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced B-mitzvah tutor to provide individualized instruction to students preparing for their ceremony. The ideal candidate has strong Hebrew reading skills and expertise in Torah and Haftarah trope. They will work with students to foster a positive and engaging learning experience, building confidence and a deeper connection to Jewish tradition. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to teach students to chant assigned prayers, blessings, Torah, and Haftarah portions.
  • Work collaboratively with the B-mitzvah team, including the Rabbi and Education Director, to monitor each student's progress.
  • Maintain regular and consistent communication with parents and B-Mitzvah team regarding student progress.
  • Serve as a positive Jewish role model and create a supportive, collaborative learning environment. 

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Hebrew reading and chanting.
  • Mastery of Torah and Haftarah trope.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring B-mitzvah students.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and adaptable.
  • Strong ability to build rapport with middle school-aged children and their families.
  • Experience with technology for virtual sessions and record-keeping (e.g., Zoom, Google Drive). 

Schedule:

  • This is a part-time position with tutoring sessions scheduled based on mutual availability, typically on weekday afternoons/evenings or Sundays.
  • Sessions may occur weekly for 3 to 6 months leading up to the ceremony, with time and duration per student varying based on the program structure.  (16 sessions max per student - any additional hours will be discussed with family and BHA staff)
