The Annual Campaign Director is responsible for leading and growing many aspects of Frankel Jewish Academy’s annual fundraising program. As an innovative, entrepreneurial, and experienced development professional, the Annual Campaign Director is responsible for planning and managing the annual donor cycle and annual giving program. Working closely with volunteer leaders, the Director of Advancement, and the Head of School, the Annual Campaign Director will be part of building a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the school and its extended community, including parents and alumni. This position reports to the Director of Advancement, is a member of the Advancement team, and may be tasked with supervising a member of the Advancement team. Occasional evening and Sunday responsibilities are required of this position.  



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Active involvement in solicitation of gifts.  Build key relationships with current and prospective donors, specifically annual donors.  
  • Strategize and lead an engagement plan for all constituent groups including grandparents, alumni parents, alumni, parents, and friends.  
  • Establish and execute forward-thinking development / advancement and strategic programs that have the goal of growing the annual campaign.
  • Assist the Director of Advancement and Head of School with managing and identifying major gift prospects.  
  • Identify, research, and spearhead the implementation of a diverse and multifaceted fundraising program to support the school’s strategic vision, cultivating a culture of giving and gratitude across all constituencies.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team on marketing, PR, and communications to create and produce fundraising-related communication materials to expand and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation, including the school magazine and Annual Report.
  • Identify corporate and/or foundation funding opportunities and program sponsorship opportunities.
  • Establish and build relationships with alumni locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, and further develop alumni programming and communication methods.
  • Recruit and manage current parent volunteers to create a thriving parent volunteer network that supports the school’s mission and the annual campaign.    
  • Personally solicit donors.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the school-wide database and gift records for parents, grandparents, and professionals within the community, and annual gift related correspondence.  


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and in fundraising, Independent school experience preferred
  • Passion and dedication to FJA’s mission of Jewish education
  • Proven success in directly soliciting and closing charitable gifts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with all the school’s constituents while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort with fundraising software programs, social media, and other technology
  • Excellent organizational skills and enjoys working collaboratively
  • High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
  • Experience working with and motivating volunteers and staff members
  • Familiarity with the local Detroit Metro Jewish community
