Peer Support Coordinator
A Mitzvah to Eat empowers Jews needing ritual accommodations to safely connect to sacred Jewish practice and community. We provide resources, support, and advocacy for these Jews, as well as the Jewish community and its leaders. Together, we are creating a Jewish culture of dignity, meaning, and belonging.
Anticipated start date: July 1
This role involves 4 hours of work per week, over 12 weeks:
July 1 - August 8th (6 weeks)
August 25th - October 1 (6 weeks)
Reports to: Executive Director
Responsibilities and Duties; including, but not limited to
Peer Support:
- Facilitate online peer support gatherings on
- 17th of Tammuz (Sunday, July 13th, at approximately 12 pm ET)
- Tisha B’Av (Sunday, August 3rd, at approximately 12 pm ET)
- The week before Yom Kippur (September 28-30, exact date and time TBD )
- Support and be a resource for Peer Support Facilitators (volunteers) in A Mitzvah to Eat’s Peer Support Space, hosted on Facebook
- Provide resources to people who reach out to A Mitzvah to Eat including via email, Facebook, and Instagram.
Administrative Support:
- Creating Zoom registration forms
- Updating email lists in Mailerlite
- Tracking and recording simple data in spreadsheets
- Simple content editing in Canva
- Editing and writing image descriptions
- Posting content to Facebook and Instagram
And other responsibilities, as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Experience leading peer support groups
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to communicate in a warm and caring manner to individuals reaching out about sensitive topics
- Comfort with hearing and maintaining confidentiality around personal stories
- Experience with working in pluralistic Jewish spaces, where Jews who are Orthodox, Reform, Conservative, Just Jewish, and multiple other Jewish identities feel equally welcomed, heard and supported
- Some background in Jewish practice and Jewish law (Halakha), for explaining basic concepts mentioned in pluralistic support gatherings and responding to individual messages which may reference Jewish law concepts
- Computer literacy
- Willingness to learn simple tasks on Mailerlite, Canva, Google Sheets, Facebook and Instagram
- An existing Facebook account or a willingness to create one for this role
- Ability to work closely with the Executive director
Preferred Qualification:
- A personal connection to A Mitzvah to Eat’s mission
Compensation: $40/hour for 4 hours/week
This role is remote.
Candidates must be eligible for employment in the United States.
Timing of Work:
On the 17th of Tammuz and Tisha B’Av (Sundays, July 13th and August 3rd), the Peer Support Coordinator needs to be available for 3 hours of work.
To allow for collaboration and a communicative, supportive work environment, the Executive Director and the Peer Support Coordinator will meet regularly, at mutually agreeable times. Otherwise, there is some room for flexible scheduling of work hours.
