The Jewish Graduate Student Initiative (JGSI) is the movement for Jewish graduate students and alumni, the only national organization solely dedicated to this demographic. Our mission is to support Jewish life on graduate campuses and to connect Jewish grad students and alumni to their heritage and the greater Jewish community. Our organization currently serves over 7,000 unique participants from 112+ graduate programs across North America with Jewish engagement, programming and content on an annual basis.

JGSI is seeking an experienced, dynamic professional to join our front-end development team to identify, cultivate, steward, and manage meaningful relationships with prospects and donors, with the expectation of producing significant annual increases in the number and yield of donations to JGSI’s national campaign at all gift levels. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Development Manager’s responsibilities will include all aspects of outreach and engagement with JGSI stakeholders, with primary emphasis on 1:1 meetings with donors and potential donors and telling JGSI’s story.

 

The ideal candidate is a people person and a go-getter: entrepreneurial and a risk-taker with a positive outlook; self-motivated and an independent worker; professional and detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; a passion for JGSI’s mission; and able to work flexible hours as needed. Experience in fundraising, campaign strategy, and donor communications required, as well as a minimum of two years direct fundraising or sales experience.

Full-time; remote work team environment; face-to-face meetings and some travel will be required.

Job responsibilities:

  • Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 300 donors/potential donors
  • In partnership with the CEO, develop a strategy and plan for building prospects and gift solicitations.
  • Qualify donors from the mid-level caseload to move to Major Gifts. Work with CEO to facilitate a smooth transition to major gifts for qualified donors.
  • Face-to-face meetings for solicitation, cultivation, and recognition of donors, both new and prospective
  • Conduct oneself in a professional, friendly, and truthful manner
  • Develop and identify major gift prospects
  • Plan fundraising initiatives to help the organization meet financial goals
  • Professional and timely phone and email communications
  • Meticulously track all touch points and activities in our database
  • Provide exceptional customer service and bedside manner with timeliness and sensitivity
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of relative experience in sales and/or fundraising.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish Community and dedication to JGSI’s mission
  • Strong understanding of donor research, identification, cultivation and solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Proven success in asking for and closing gifts and building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors.
  • Comfortable interacting effectively with the leaders in the business community.
  • Ability to respect and maintain donor confidentiality.
  • Some travel required
  • Candidate may be required to work outside office hours as needed
