Responsibilities

Youth Education

  • Set education priorities, strategy and curriculum 
  • Manage & lead quarterly meetings for the Youth Education Committee
  • Run Shabbat Enrichment (PKK-4), Iyunim Programming (4-8), and Minyan Katan (Ages 0-5) on Saturday mornings
  • Manage administrative work related to the program including regular parent communications, attendance & finance paperwork, board reports & Kol Yaakov submissions
  • Hire & supervise teachers
    • Procure supplies needed by teachers & ensure copies are made prior to Saturday 
    • Provide professional development & run regular staff meetings  
  • Supervise Madrichim (9th - 12th Grade) and coordinate with their teachers to ensure success
  • Create family friendly programming of the Jewish Holidays including High Holidays, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Tu B’shvat, Purim, & Passover
  • Coordinate babysitting for the nursery for Shabbat & Holidays
  • Supervise Youth Director and oversee all experiential Jewish educational programs offered by Beth Jacob Congregation (BJUSY, Gesher, & BJuniors)

B’nai Mitzvah

  • Manage B'nai Mitzvah cohort programming designed to strengthen the ties between the children in the B'nai Mitzvah program and help them understand the importance of the B'nai Mitzvah.
    • Work with families to set B’nai Mitzvah dates during their fifth grade year
    • Assign B'nai Mitzvah tutors & manage progress of students
    • Develop & lead pre-B'nai Mitzvah cohort programming for students & parents
    • Work with students on drash and spiritual preparation (shared with Senior Rabbi)

Adult Education

  • Partner with Senior Rabbi to set vision, define schedule and teach Adult Education classes
  • Work with Senior Rabbi in cultivating an adult learning lay leadership committee & new educational experiences such as Scholars in residence weekends

Camp & Scholarships

  • Oversee all Jewish Summer Camp recruitment & advocacy a Beth Jacob including family camp
  • Oversee scholarship application process and allocations of Jewish Summer Camp Scholarships, Jewish Day School Scholarship, Israel Trip Scholarships, & BJUSY/Gesher
  • Work with Executive Director, Senior Rabbi, Youth Director & Scholarship committee to fundraise for Jewish education scholarships

Pastoral/Rabbinic Support

  • Lead Morning Minyan at least once a week on a weekly basis 
  • Support Senior Rabbi with life cycle events, shiva minyanim, etc.
  • Provide pastoral care at direction of Senior Rabbi to community
  • Serve as back-up for Senior Rabbi as necessary at Shabbat Services, Chagim & Kabbalat Shabbat

Congregational Duties

  • Attend weekly staff meetings & help support Shul’s overall goals 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of educational experience
  • Pastoral skills & experience required
  • Masters in Education required - Rabbinical ordination preferred 

This position is a direct report to the Beth Jacob Congregation Senior Rabbi
