JCC Chicago seeks a strategic and skilled Chief Development Officer (CDO) who will work across the organization to elevate all fundraising efforts, infusing collaborative and synergistic approaches to financial health and sustainability. The CDO will oversee JCC Chicago’s goal of generating annual philanthropic revenue of $5+ million, as well as additional funds for capital and special projects, by amplifying a message of impact and harnessing untapped potential throughout the community. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive management position will be a strong contributor to the JCC’s leadership team and an active contributor in agency-wide strategic planning and initiatives. To meaningfully shape the organization’s philanthropic roadmap, a successful candidate will effectively engage with key internal and external stakeholders; drive robust comprehensive development initiatives; manage a collaborative and efficient team; and foster a culture of philanthropy reflective of JCC Chicago’s core values.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 10+ years of fundraising leadership experience

  • Demonstrated success cultivating and soliciting 6 and 7 figure donors

  • Skilled in building authentic relationships with diverse stakeholders

  • Substantial knowledge of and ability to impart development best practices

  • Passion for the mission and history of JCC Chicago and the ability to compellingly articulate its unique value proposition

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; sophisticated interpersonal skills

  • Capability to inform, motivate, and inspire colleagues and supporters

  • Strong entrepreneurial and problem- solving skills

  • Significant supervisory experience; ability to provide timely feedback

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Experience developing qualitative and quantitative measures to track development impact

  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce CRM

  • Knowledge of Chicago Jewish philanthropy strongly preferred

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree or CFRE a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive annual and supplemental campaign revenue by planning and implementing a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan

  • Foster growth among existing donor base and nurture prospect pipelines

  • Actively solicit a portfolio of donors (primarily 6 and 7 figure gifts)

  • Direct all stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, ongoing stewardship, gift processing, and pledge tracking

  • Serve as a steward of JCC Chicago’s case for support among donors, community partners, and various key stakeholders

  • Oversee development department budget; optimize resources to ensure efficient execution of fundraising activities

  • Supervise solicitation portfolios for development team members

  • Manage solicitation assignments for Board of Directors

  • Engage staff, external donors, members, volunteers, and business and community leaders in fundraising efforts

  • Provide key development-related insights to executive leadership team, and participate in institutional decision-making as directed by CEO

  • Effectively track, quantify, and report on donor data, goals, and outcomes across all departments
