Job Summary 

The Controller position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and be responsible for the day-to-day financial management and accounting functions including billing and payroll.  He/she will manage and execute accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting and budget monitoring, financial projections, banking, payroll, financial reporting, tax review, audit preparation, restricted fund administration, government reporting, and auxiliary services. The position is responsible for preparing end-of-month and end-of-year financials and reporting to the board of directors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct accounting, audit, cash flow, debt, payroll, banking, and reporting. 
  • Prepare, implement, and monitor an annual budget. 
  • Work directly with agency staff on budgeting, financial oversight, and year-round questions.  
  • Communicate with and assist with financial matters and collections, work with vendors and outside agencies, rentals, etc.
  • Executes the month-end close process 
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and analyses for the Board, management, and other entities. 
  • Perform and supervise accounting functions of payables, receivables, banking, and invoicing- including member billing and records, and payroll. Work with outside vendors, purchase requisitions and purchase orders, and contract follow-through. 
  • Manage investment in-house accounting, including unitized endowments, annual spending draws, and monthly performance. 
  • Review and update the financial procedures of the organization. 
  • Maintain work papers and accurate records for annual audit. 
  • Direct annual accounting audit. 
  • Supervision of the accounting and billing office and staff 
  • Other projects as assigned by the Executive Director 


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA preferred)
  • 5 years of accounting experience, in a non-profit environment
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP accounting for nonprofits
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Direct experience with Fund Easy(preferred) or similar software
  • Paychex or other relevant payroll software experience 
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and audit support
  • Experience as a supervisor
