Job Title: Clergy Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Rabbi
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Employment Type: Full-time (On-site)

Position Overview

Congregation B’nai B’rith (CBB), a vibrant and inclusive Reform Jewish congregation in Santa Barbara, seeks a warm, organized, and proactive Clergy Coordinator. This vital role supports our clergy team—Senior Rabbi, Assistant Rabbi, and Cantor—by managing scheduling, communications, life cycle coordination, and clergy-related programs and events. The Clergy Coordinator ensures smooth operations, thoughtful pastoral engagement, and meaningful donor and congregant experiences.

Key Responsibilities

General Clergy Support

  • Receive, screen, and respond to phone calls to the clergy line with professionalism and warmth.
  • Manage Sr Rabbi calendar, appointments, and confirmations.
  • Maintain and distribute the weekly hospital and pastoral care list.
  • Prepare weekly Shabbat folder (including announcements, order of service, yahrzeit list).
  • Proof read weekly emails for clergy-related announcements.

Financial and Administrative Tasks

  • Prepare and send Clergy written correspondence (letters, etc).
  • Book and coordinate travel arrangements as needed.
  • Draft clergy budgets and event/program outlines.
  • Process clergy-related accounts payable and check requests.
  • Track and process clergy reimbursement or check requests.

Life Cycle Support and Coordination

  • Schedule Life Cycle appointments with all clergy.
  • Generate and submit set up forms for life cycle events.
  • Prepare Shabbat BBM folders and gifts, naming certificates, funeral materials, etc.

Program and Event Management

  • Coordinate with other departments to plan clergy-led services (festivals, Yizkor, High Holy Days, etc.).
  • Provide administrative support for Clergy-involved committees (ie. Religious Practices).
  • Maintain and update clergy "call list" for outreach and stewardship.
  • Assist with donor stewardship initiatives and projects.

Strategic and Operational Planning

  • Partner with the Senior Rabbi in goal setting and quarterly evaluation.
  • Help develop weekly clergy schedules and set time-blocked calendars.

Communications and Writing

  • Draft and/or edit announcements, emails, and other communications from clergy.

  • Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal communication
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Tech fluent; forward thinking; proactive
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • A growth mindset and eagerness to learn
  • Experience in Jewish communal life or understanding of Jewish traditions is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

  • Non Exempt: $27-30 per hour; commensurate with experience.
