Who We Are
American Friends of Rambam Medical Center (AFORAM) is a national not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization established to promote and support Rambam Health Care Campus – the premier medical institution located in Haifa, Israel.
Rambam is a 1,100-bed, comprehensive, teaching hospital and Northern Israel's most advanced medical center, as well as the primary referral center for 12 district hospitals. Located in Haifa, Israel’s third largest city, Rambam serves 2.5 million residents: one third of Israel’s population.
Rambam has provided excellent medical care during Israel’s most challenging times, including through the Second Lebanon war, while being under continuous rocket attacks. Moreover, Rambam has treated wounded civilians and Israel Defense Forces; opened Israel’s largest COVID-19 facility; and during Swords of Iron – when missiles hit Haifa and surrounding communities – Rambam opened Israel’s largest fortified underground emergency hospital. During the last twelve years, Rambam opened its new west campus, consisting of the Ruth Rappaport Children’s Hospital, the Joseph Fishman Oncology Center, the Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital, and soon the Helmsley Health Discovery Tower, all on top of the 2,000-bed Sammy Ofer Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital – the largest in the world. The vision is now towards Rambam’s North Campus expansion.
Rambam is a unique model of coexistence, with a mix of Jewish and Arab physicians, patients and staff; all work together to serve its residents, from all strata of Israeli society, as well as humanitarian cases and patients from abroad.
