Health and Wellness Director

This is a 40-hour per week full-time position  In accordance with the JCC’s standards, the Health and Wellness Director will: Take Responsibility to Provide Excellent Service at all Times.

Position Summary:  Responsible for all aspects of the Fitness Center operation: Programming; Personal and Small Group Training; Personnel Management; Budgeting and on boarding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Fitness Center

  • Manage full time and part time personal trainer(s) on staff. Work with staff to increase SGPT and personal training income.
  • Schedules part-time fitness center staff based on the needs of the fitness center and within the allocated budgeted amount for the Fitness Center staffing.
  • Responsible for fitness center payrolls (including personal trainers, fitness center staff,).
  • Hire, train and supervise part time fitness staff and personal trainers..
  • Schedule ongoing trainings for staff to emphasize the overall importance of customer service.
  • Keep track of all trainers’ certifications ensuring that all are current.
  • Make sure all staff are trained in the JCC member experience training.
  • Create incentive programs for the personal trainers to maximize personal training revenue.
  • Maintain all cardiovascular and selectorized weight equipment in perfect working order. Maintain log book of repairs. Communicate with the service company, the members and staff about the equipment that is in need of repair and the status of the equipment repair.  Manage repair expense line.
  • Supervise and maintain a clean environment. Including cleaning equipment and restacking weights.
  • Maintain consistent communication with membership needs relative to fitness center through e-mails, newsletter, internal signs and website. Work with the Marketing Department on these communication needs so that they happen in a timely and professional manner.
  • Promote new Fitness Center Programs and contests. Work with marketing to create programming to help increase revenue and add value to the JCC member experience.

New Member On-Boarding

  • Work with the Member Relations Staff and to create systems to get all new members scheduled for appointments/ask the trainer appts.
  • Meet regularly with Member Relations staff to improve systems so that on-boarding percentages increase monthly.
  • Ensure all new members are communicated with related to medical clearances and medical issues before the initial appointments.

Personal Training Privileges

With the scheduling approval of the Health, Fitness and Wellness Director , the Fitness Director  may perform, for additional pay (based on personal training pay rates established) personal training.  These additional hours of personal training will take place above and beyond the regular 40 hour per week work schedule.

Supervision

The Fitness Director will supervise any full time Fitness Staff.

Work Schedule

Weekly work schedule will be coordinated with supervisor based on the needs of the department and the programs that are running.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

Education: BS in Exercise Science or related field. Personal training certification. Must be current in CPR, First Aid and AED.

Experience: Minimum 3 years Personal training or related experience.  Personnel management and supervision experience required.

Candidate must possess the personality and demeanor to interact with staff and the community at large. Experience in customer service and sales.  Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Skills and Knowledge:

Computer skills: Windows, Word and Excel

Working Conditions and Physical/Mental Demands Specific to this Position:

Must be able to work in a fast pace busy environment

Must be willing to work early mornings, nights and weekend hours

Position calls for sitting, standing, and walking throughout the building

Routinely lifts and carries, moves and positions objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Occasionally lifts objects over 45 pounds.

Candidate must be in good physical condition.                             

Adhere to OSHA and government safety regulations.
