Individual Giving Officer
 
Who We Are:  Founded by Michigan survivors to create a lasting memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, The Zekelman Holocaust Center (“The HC”) is guided by its mission to engage, educate, and empower by remembering the Holocaust. Each year the Center welcomes thousands of visitors to learn the lessons of history’s darkest period. Exhibits and artifacts on display include survivor testimonies, documents, paintings, and films, a WWII-era boxcar, and a sapling from the tree located outside Anne Frank’s hiding place window that is described in her diary. Embedded in the community, the Center’s trained staff offers school and adult groups customized tours, training, and programs. Guests are empowered to apply the lessons learned to create a compassionate society where people take responsible action.
Summary of Responsibilities: The Individual Giving Officer oversees the membership program including the annual membership event, outreach and marketing to potential members, engaging the existing donors and encouraging them to increase their annual gift.  They oversee the recording of all gifts and data management of the development department. They are the point person for all development calls. They are involved in the day-to-day operations of the Annual Benefit and the lead in the end of the year fundraising campaign.
 
 Responsibilities:
  • Solicits, coordinates and maintains all data for the annual benefit.  This includes soliciting and working with donors, maintaining spreadsheets, invoicing, receipting and reporting to CEO and CDO.
  • Oversee the membership program, including monthly fundraising solicitation letters, donor recognition, lapsed donors, invoicing, receipting and designing the annual membership event.
Conducts donor research and oversees individual donor records
  • Manage Development Operations for all donations, including invoicing and receipting
  • Eventual supervision of the Development Associate and their responsibilities including: tribute program, annual benefit ad journal, and stewardship.
  • Lead for registration at the Annual Benefit including supervision of staff, coordination of data, seating and all requests.
  • Spearheads and oversees end-of-the year fundraising campaign, including printed materials, solicitations, receipts and invoices. Assign and track solicitations with the fundraising team.
  • Development liaison to the Data Team.
  • Support to events and programs
Requirements  
  • Broad experience working with volunteers, boards and donors
  • Knowledge of the community serviced by The HC
  • Occasional evening and weekend work
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail, strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to cultivate, steward, solicit and close gifts
  • 3+ years of experience and proven success in fundraising or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively across departments and institution
  • Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills and ability to speak persuasively
  • Technical proficiency including experience working with fundraising databases such as Altru or similar software systems
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree preferred
