The Director of Community-wide Learning will serve as a full-time Jewish educator to meet the needs of our growing synagogue across age demographics. This position will work closely with the Director of Education and a supervising Senior Rabbi to enrich and deepen Jewish learning at Congregation Shearith Israel through teaching, tutoring, curricular development, and relationship building. The Director of Community-wide Learning will also serve as a bridge between the Weitzman Family Religious School and the B’nei Mitzvah program, ensuring a seamless experience for our families. The Director of Community-wide Learning will also teach classes and conduct workshops for adult learners and serve in our High Holy Day rotation. Finally, the Director of Community-wide learning will serve as clergy liaison to our staff who work with AV and other technologies.
In particular, the Director of Community-wide Learning will be responsible for the following areas of Jewish life at Shearith Israel:
School-aged families
-Serving as a curricular advisor to the Director of Education and WFRS teachers and implementing new and innovative strategies for ritual skill building for our K-7 students
-Providing an additional skilled ritual presence in religious school classrooms, maintaining a regular rotation of educational encounters across grade levels
-Working with the Cantor to integrate B’nei Mitzvah skills into the WFRS curriculum and serving as a resource for B’nei Mitzvah programming
-Building relationships with families to provide additional support to our students throughout their educational journey, most especially leading up to Bar/Bat-Mitzvah
-Providing additional tutoring hours and support for our B’nei Mitzvah and WFRS students
Adult Learners
-Overseeing our Scholar-in-Residence programming, leveraging existing relationships and creating new connections with nationally renowned Jewish educators and experts
-Expanding our adult learning offerings, most especially those designed to increase skill building and participation in ritual
-Sourcing curricula and materials for adult learning in partnership with our Klei Kodesh
-Creating additional learning opportunities for 20s/30s, school-age parents, and seniors
-Designing and implementing a digital learning platform for Shearith Israel members (through videos, podcasts, etc.) in partnership with our Klei Kodesh and providing additional technical expertise where needed in our ritual programming
-Providing timely learning opportunities during holidays—Siyyum Bechorim, Tikkun Leil Shavuot, Yom Kippur afternoon, Passover seder for 20s/30s, etc.
High Holidays
-Serving the Beit Aryeh community by leading services and giving sermons in coordination with our Klei Kodesh
-Running an Erev Rosh Hashanah service for 20s/30s
Technology
-Serve as clergy liaison on planning, implementation, maintenance, and use of audio/visual technologies to serve our community and reach new prospective families
-Research and self-train on new technologies and mechanisms to keep Shearith on the cutting edge
-Additional responsibilities as designated by the Director of Education and/or Supervising Senior Rabbi in consultation with the Director of Community-Wide Learning
