Melville Jewish Center is looking to hire a Synagogue Administrator:

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated generalist with a can-do approach to manage the daily operations of a progressive conservative synagogue.  The Administrator will interact with the congregation President(s), lay leadership and clergy, while managing the professional and office staff to ensure the smooth operation of all synagogue religious services, events and programs, including the Early Childhood Center and Religious School.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Have strong communication and collaboration skills, and be organized and people oriented
  • Experience working in a non-profit or synagogue setting is a plus
  • This is a full-time position with required attendance at various evening meetings including but not limited to monthly Board Meetings, Congregation Meetings, Committee Meetings, and synagogue events
  • Lead, supervise and coordinate all non-clergy staff including bookkeeping, educational, custodial and administrative. Provide accountability and ensure that all functions are completed properly and on time
  • Coordinate actions of professional staff and organize training for all staff members as needed
  • Oversee, schedule, and delegate the workflow of office and custodial staff
  • Manage all operational, facilities, maintenance and support activities to ensure the successful delivery of all synagogue programs and religious experiences.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for program and event coordination and arrange for security and food for synagogue events as needed
  • Serve as point of contact for all IT, telephone, alarm, printer and office supply vendors and coordinate repairs, contracts, upgrades etc of all
  • Coordinate and monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, roofing and security vendors and keep appropriate Board VP’s up to date on all related matters
  • Responsible for synagogue operating budget jointly with the bookkeeper, synagogue treasurer/finance VP’s and department heads
  • Manage, approve and make all purchases for synagogue supplies
  • Manage and monitor day to day expenditures
  • Coordinate and supervise the synagogue calendar including working with outside catering panel to book events
  • Candidate should be proficient in digital technology, such as MS Office and be able to learn new software. Knowledge of Quickbooks, ADP Payroll System and Shulcloud a plus.
  • Requires the ability to interact with congregants and potential members including welcoming prospective members, managing the annual membership renewal process, maintaining membership records and resolving members concerns and issues
  • Support the Board and lay leaders including support for fundraising and other events
  • Keep the President, Leadership and Clergy informed of all synagogue matters on a timely basis
  • Manage all matters of human resources jointly with our legal team including staff contracts, recruiting, background checks, fingerprinting or other required activities

 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time exempt position.

Employee will be eligible to be paid for 15 days PTO and all Federal and Jewish holidays when the synagogue office is closed.
