Description

The Jewish Center in Princeton, NJ is looking for a Youth Director to run our youth programs.  We have a strong youth community with a religious school of 150 students and social programming for grades K to 12.  We are looking for a Youth Director to take our youth programming to new heights.  We have 4 youth groups including: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 (Kadima) and 9-12 (JCUSY).  The Director will provide leadership to all these programs, supervise the group advisors and organize and plan all programs for each level throughout the year.

Programming:

  • Provide monthly in-person activities for each group with options for online gatherings and hangouts.
  • Recruit new attendees by being visible during Religious School hours and our Sulam, post B’nai Mitzvah program.
  • Organize our annual Purim Carnival.
  • Hangout at least once a week in our youth lounge 
  • Promote regional and international USY conferences and events; attend events when required.
  • Promote Jewish summer camps and summer programs.
  • Assist with synagogue initiatives, special events and programs as needed.

Communication:

  • Communicate with students and parents using various platforms (e.g., phone and text, Remind app, Instagram, Facebook, email and more) under the guidance of the Director of Congregational Learning and VP of Education.
  • Review and reply to requests and communications in a timely manner.
  • Create and promote events through every channel possible including all social media outlets via various instruments, e.g., flyers, email, and social media posts.
  • Take photos and videos of all programs and post on social media sites.
  • Provide flyers or articles for submission to the monthly TJC bulletin.

Administrative:

  • Prepare a monthly report to the Director of Congregational Learning with activities and attendance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of program participants and prospective members.
  • Integrate programming with synagogue calendar.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting.
  • Assist with registration and attendance for youth programs, events, and service opportunities.
  • Arrange staff support, food, budget, and transportation for youth events. Includes ordering and picking up food/supplies for programming when needed.

 Outreach

  • Collaborate with other local synagogues and youth groups in the area for joint programming.
  • Reach out to Regional USY staff and chapters and gain interest in joint programming.
  • Be a visible member of the staff at programs and school functions promoting the youth program.

Qualifications:

  • Strong Jewish background; Passion and enthusiasm for Judaism and Jewish life.
  • Experience with USY, BBYO, Young Judea, NFTY or other Jewish youth programs
  • Be a Pied Piper to attract new students who want to engage.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communications skills.
  • Experience working with children/teens in a formal and informal setting.
  • Ability to follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures associated with working with children.
  • Access to a reliable cell phone, computer and internet access.
  •  Availability to lead teen programming for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur

This role is a part-time position. Approximately 10-15 hours/week. A given week’s hours may vary based on holiday and event schedules.

Annual Salary: $15,000 (paid bi-weekly)
