Position Overview:
Congregation Beth Shalom is a warm and inclusive Conservative congregation, seeks a passionate and energetic Youth Advisor and Religious School Teacher to engage and inspire our children and teens (grades K-12) through meaningful Jewish learning, creative programming, and relationship-building. This part-time role is ideal for a dynamic educator or youth professional looking to make a real impact in a close-knit community.

Key Responsibilities:

Religious School (Sundays, Wednesdays, once a month Saturdays):

  • Teach engaging Judaic and/or Hebrew curriculum to elementary or middle school students (exact grade to be assigned).
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment rooted in Jewish values.
  • Collaborate with the Education Director and other faculty to plan and deliver experiential learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and classroom activities.
  • Assist with school-wide events, holiday celebrations, and special programs.

Youth Advisor:

  • Build and support the Youth Board as needed.
  • Identify Teen leaders and work with parents to implement teen initiatives, helping teens build leadership skills.
  • Yearly meeting with parents separately from Teen leaders to support the visioning of our teen programs, receive feedback and assist with future planning. 
  • Lead Teen Board in leadership development skills, keeping teens accountable, and enlisting their support in planning events during monthly Board meetings and following up as needed.
  • Plan and implement CBS youth events for 8th through 12th grade
  • Youth Group – 1-2 programs/events per month, including social events, community service opportunities, and some holiday programming. Some weekday and weekend availability is required.
  • Youth Board– 1 meeting per month to develop programs and leadership skills.
  • Meet with prospective and current active teens and families to build relationships via 1:1 and group meetings on a regular basis.
  • Request and/or prepare all supplies, logistics requests, food orders, etc. in advance of all events.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate with teens, parents, colleagues and supervisor regularly, and respond promptly to all communications.
    • Collaborate with supervisor to create all mass-communication emails and event marketing. 
    • Develop a broader communications strategic plan. 
    • Write monthly updates for our communications, highlighting Teen programming. 
    • Meet regularly with the Religious School Director (weekly/biweekly) to discuss past and upcoming events, challenges, relationship building, etc.
  • Administration:
    • Develop and manage the Teen calendar for teens to engage in Jewish social events and community service at CBS in conjunction with the parent committee, Teen Board, and CBS calendar. 
    • Manage the budget for programming, 8th through 12th grade
    • Assist in annual Youth Scholarship Shabbat
  • Outreach, Community Relations, and Synagogue Growth:
    • Serve as an ambassador for the synagogue within the community
    • Enhance the reputation of the Synagogue
    • Enhance the positive image of the Department of Youth and Family Engagement through interactions with parents, teachers, congregants, and community organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Jewish education, youth engagement, and community-building.
  • Teaching or youth leadership experience (camp, synagogue, school, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Conservative Judaism and Hebrew language a plus.
  • Creativity, warmth, and strong communication skills.
  • Flexibility to lead weekend, evening or holiday youth events throughout the year
