Cantor/Cantorial Soloist Part-Time
Temple Beth Hillel, West Contra Costa County's only synagogue, has a job opening for a part-time Cantor or Cantorial Soloist. We are a warm, close knit and active Reform congregation, with a community of about 70 families who often consider the congregation to be our family. Our congregation enjoys participatory services and singing with the Cantor in prayer.
-- Knowledge of and passion for Reform Jewish liturgy - Both Hebrew & English
-- Experience in leading Jewish worship
-- Experience interacting with children and adults
-- Familiarity with Mishkan T'filah.
-- Friday night (generally twice monthly - 1st & 3rd Shabbat) and occasional Saturday morning Shabbat services, including b'nai mitzvot.
-- High Holy Day services
-- Helping to lead weekly Sunday Morning T'filah with our Religious School, Beit Midrash Hillel (during school year)
-- Ability to co-lead services with Rabbi and if Rabbi is unavailable to lead the service
-- Help to lead and/or take point on various holiday services/events (e.g. - Pesach, Yom HaShoah, Simchat Torah, Chanukkah, and Purim.)
-- Working with our volunteer choir & High Holy Days Choir Director (if applicable)
-- Collaborate with Rabbi and Head of Religious School
-- Assisting with life-cycle events.
-- Ability to teach prayers and Torah / Haftarah trope to b'nai mitzvah students.
-- Self-accompaniment on guitar or other instrument(s).
This position always has room for growth. We are open to ideas, such as musical programming, introduction of various musical influences, & etc.
