Who We Are:

The Orthodox Union's Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (OU-JLIC) places rabbinic couples on college campuses to provide Orthodox Jewish students with Torah education and mentorship, helping them continue their spiritual growth into adulthood. OU-JLIC offers a range of programs, including learning sessions, Shabbat experiences, and social events, fostering a strong sense of community and spiritual growth. Additionally, OU-JLIC extends its support to Israel, offering summer and year-round programs that combine Torah study with professional opportunities. 

The Orthodox Union (OU) is one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organizations in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol, ?, is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products.

Position Overview:
JLIC is seeking an organized, creative, team-oriented professional with strong communications skills to serve as Development Associate. The Development Associate will support JLIC’s development team with critical administrative tasks. As a core member of the Development team, the Development Associate will be included in strategic planning conversations and meetings, allowing them to engage with all facets of the fundraising and nonprofit space.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the team in executing fundraising strategies and engagement efforts.
  • Manage and maintain the accuracy of JLIC donor records within the OU database (Velocity), including identifying issues, troubleshooting, and ensuring up-to-date information in coordination with OU’s Data Services.
  • Conduct ongoing prospect research and identify potential major gift donors.
  • Prepare well-researched solicitation call lists with all critical information.
  • Collaborate with the National Team and JLIC staff to assist with all campaigns.
  • Prepare acknowledgment letters and other correspondence in coordination with Data Services.
  • Support fundraising events, including but not limited to Scholar-in-Residence programs and development Shabbatonim.
  • Manage the donor stewardship calendar and implement regular communication and outreach.
  • Assist with small gift solicitations.
  • Brainstorm and contribute ideas to expand outreach efforts.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 1-3 years work experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with donor database systems preferred

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and complete projects accurately and efficiently
  • Effective time management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Passion for tackling challenging projects and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in all aspects of non-profit fundraising
  • Enthusiasm for strategizing ways to engage alumni, parents, and the broader community

 

Salary and Benefits:

 The salary for this position is between $50,000 and $60,000, commensurate with experience.
