The Music Director serves as musical leader, providing joyous and spiritual music. While musical skill is essential, inspiring robust community participation in prayer and song is equally important. Working under the direction of the Senior Rabbi, the Music Director guides the congregation in all matters affecting the Jewish musical activities of the synagogue. In addition to musical skill, teaching and inspiring the community participation in prayer and song is essential.

Music Leadership Duties and Responsibilities:
• Sing and play as a congregational song-leader during all weekly Shabbat Friday evening and Saturday morning services. (One or two days off per month as the schedule allows.)
• Sing and play at all B'nai Mitzvah services, special programs, Festivals, High Holy Day Services, and life cycle events.
• Work in collaboration with the Rabbis on the continual development of the prayer services and holiday celebrations according to the needs of the community.
• Oversee preparation and production of all Festival and High Holy Day music and music programming.
• Train, rehearse, and direct the adult and youth choir and instrumentalists, including rehearsal/practice both for High Holy Days and for periodic services throughout the year.
• Introduce new music in collaboration with the Rabbis.
• B’nei Mitzvah tutoring of prayer and Torah portions.
• Management of Bar/Bat Mitzvah program, including collaborating with tutors, interfacing with parents, and monitoring student progress.
• Teach music classes, T’fillah, and musical theater Torah School.
• Run musical theater program for Torah School with yearly Hanukkah and Purim performances with the possibility for an end of year performance.
• Provide preschool music twice a week during the school year.
• Prepare and curate music and provide copies for music team for necessary services.
• Schedule musicians and support staff for all rehearsals and services.
• Develop and manage Band Shabbats.
• Develop and manage Youth and Adult Theatre program.
• Provide monthly article for Temple Bulletin.
• Coordinate with Senior Staff to execute programming.
• Oversee the maintenance and/or purchasing of new musical instruments, equipment and music as needed.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as needed.
• Attend one professional development conference or event per year with approval of Senior Rabbi or Executive Director.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Jewish setting.
• Knowledge of reform Jewish music and prayer repertoire.
• Ability to play one musical instruction proficiently.
• Ability to work with and lead choir.
• Ability to read and teach Hebrew and trope.
• Ability and interest in working with children of all ages.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well in collaborative setting.

Salary73,000.00 - 77,000.00 Annual
