IACT/Program Associate: Birthright and Israel Engagement 

Tufts University Hillel

Job Overview

The IACT (Inspired, Active, Committed, Transformed Coordinator)/Program Associate recruits Tufts students for Birthright and other Israel trips sponsored by Tufts Hillel.  They plan, implement and staff trips in consultation with senior Hillel staff, tour providers and other vendors. The Associate works closely with the approximately 150 current students who have or will participate in one or more of these trips by developing follow-up programs to engage then in Jewish life at Tufts and to provide opportunities for meaningful Jewish experiences. This person will also act as a liaison to Jewish community organizations that work with young adults to assist graduating students in continuing their connection to Jewish life after graduation.                                                                                                           

Reports to: Associate Director

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Market Israel trip opportunities to undergraduate students at Tufts.
  • Recruit and interview Israel trip potential participants.
  • Work as part of professional team to select candidates to participate.
  • Staff Birthright and other Israel trips as determined by Executive Director.
  • Explore the possibility the expansion of additional trips in the Spring/Summer.
  • Do personalized follow up to connect Birthright students to appropriate Jewish cultural, educational, religious and social action programming on campus. 
  • Organize reunion events (Shabbat, brunches, evening programs, and lectures, field trips) in order to maintain group cohesion and deepen individuals’ connection to Jewish life.
  • Organize programs to further educational opportunities for participants in regard to Israel and learn more about Israeli culture, arts, environment, politics, and music.
  • Provide appropriate, stimulating reading material (books, articles, best of the press, web based resources, local community publications) to further and deepen students education and connection to Jewish life and Israel.
  • Provide opportunities to connect graduating students with Jewish community activities and organizations that provide meaningful post-college Jewish Experiences.
  • Supervise a team of interns in creating lesson plans and programs for and oversee the teaching of the Visions of Peace experimental college class.
  • Provide support to pro Israel groups on campus that currently involves FOI, JSTREETU, and Tufts Students for Two States. This entails program support, messaging support and leadership development work. Serve as a resource for the Israel groups when or if anti-Israel initiatives happen on campus (i.e. BDS, apartheid week)                       

Qualifications

  • Ability to take initiative
  • 1-2 years relevant experience
  • Ability to consistently follow-through on projects
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive or confidential information
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy, experience with social media, and PowerPoint
  • Must be familiar with Judaism and Israel
  • Experience in Jewish education and outreach a plus
  • Past travel to Israel is needed
  • BA or equivalent
