The Director of Youth and Family Programming manages youth programming, synagogue holiday programming, and youth group (USY 9th-12th grade and Kadima 6th-8th grade). This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with all members of Beth Shalom staff. This position includes the creation, execution, and engagement of marketing materials for programming and events this position creates. This position also includes cultivating community partnerships to grow and connect Beth Shalom with the Kansas City Jewish Community.
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Jewish Education/Engagement
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in event planning/programming
• Knowledge and understanding of synagogue life, Jewish practice and holidays, and familiarity and comfort with sacred Jewish texts
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative, prioritize and manage time, resources and staff
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• The ability to think strategically and creatively
• Experience managing a budget
• Proficiency in marketing and content creation
• A willingness to work evenings and weekends
• A willingness to work on the High Holidays and other major Jewish holidays
• The ability to connect with people of all ages


• Recruit families through community-building efforts, individual outreach, social media, and full integration with synagogue offerings
• Develop, oversee and transform informal Jewish experiential programs called “Gesher Family Programming” for children and families with children ages Kindergarten-8th grade.
• Develop, execute, and run High Holiday Family Programming
• Oversee the Passport to Israel program, sending timely emails, collecting checks, collecting data, and then corresponding with the Jewish Federation
• Plan, communicate and execute the Baccalaureate Celebration for high school graduates
• Assist in Programming for the annual synagogue fundraiser

• Engage teens and their families by building strong Kadima and USY programs
• Work with youth on leadership, peer outreach, team building, program and meeting planning skill and preparation for Regional and National Conventions
• Staff all local and regional USY events and conventions
• Work with USCJ Youth Staff to ensure programming is consistent with the Conservative Movement mission and goals and collaborate with other local youth programs as appropriate
• Work with the teens to plan weekly lounge nights for the USY 9th-12th graders and monthly Kadima programs for the 6th-8th graders
• Participate in monthly JYDA (national conservative youth directors association) and EMTZA (region of USY) calls for professional development and resource development

• Create and oversee calendar of programming
• Develop publicity for all programs including fliers, emails, paid advertisement, Scroll, Chronicle, and personal outreach
• Create and implement digital content and interact with the community on social media channels
• Develop and implement partnerships that advance our goals, with local resources and national Jewish providers
• Carry out CBS policies related to youth and family programs
• Perform other tasks and duties that may be required
