Job Summary

The Director of Membership & Programming is responsible for executing a wide range of operational and administrative functions around all temple programming & events, including logistics, facilities, and communications. Additionally, they will be the primary staff person leading efforts around membership recruitment, engagement, and retention. They work closely with the Clergy, the Executive Director, and other staff to create a warm, caring, enriching, and vibrant environment for our members to engage fully in the many opportunities provided at the synagogue. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Membership & Programming

  • Create, maintain, and update digital and physical membership materials, including brochures, invitations, and other branded items provided to members. 
  • Support existing affinity groups within the temple community and help develop new avenues for engaging our membership. Develop and execute High Holiday activities, social action initiatives, social programs, and educational programs. Create opportunities for meaningful engagement, education, relationship building and Jewish inspiration. 
  • Assist the Membership Committee in its work of identifying, recruiting, onboarding, and retaining members, and lead all tours for prospective members. 


  • Support the daily operations at Temple Sholom in regards to building management, communications, and programs, and maintain the temple’s calendar of events.
  • Coordinate all event and program logistics in partnership with staff and lay leadership. Support event planning and building rental activities, internally and community-wide, including partner organizations, vendor support (e.g., caterers, photographers, and community partners), and auxiliary groups within Temple Sholom. 
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, manage all High Holiday logistics including ticketing, setups, programming, and security.


  • In coordination with the Executive Director, oversee all formal and informal communications, both internal and external. 
  • Responsible for planning, drafting, and proofreading all communications, including social media, photography, print and digital collateral, and routine and emergency communications. 
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Committee around communications strategy, marketing best practices, website design, and current rebranding efforts. 

Qualifications and Requirements


  • Excellent computer skills and facility with various technology and platforms, especially Google Workspace and social media platforms like Instagram and/or TikTok.
  • Strong copy editing skills and experience writing appropriate content for a range of communication mediums.
  • Attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to track multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with staff and lay leaders in a respectful and goal-oriented way.
  • Availability to work some nights, weekends, and Jewish holidays.


  • Familiarity with ShulCloud, Constant Contact, WordPress, and graphic design software (e.g., AI, Canva, Pixelmator)


Location: Broomall, PA

Employment: Full-Time (40+ hours/week)
