Shalom Institute seeks a dynamic Marketing and Communications Manager to join our team to support marketing, communication, and public relations efforts. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for global communications, maintaining brand integrity, ensuring consistent messaging and representing Shalom Institute’s presence in all areas of communication, including marketing, social media, development and public relations. The Marketing and Communications Manager will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate Shalom Institute’s mission and strategic goals.  The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with our both program and development teams.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is a role model and is expected to behave in a positive and professional manner and demonstrate professionalism and accountability. He/she/they will take initiative to analyze and solve problems, treat others with courtesy and respect, respond to customer needs, and maintain integrity and confidentiality. This is a full-time exempt position supervised directly by the Chief Executive Officer.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead agency communications efforts, including creating and increasing brand awareness of Shalom Institute.
  • Develop, implement, and analyze the annual communications plan across diverse audiences in collaboration with Shalom Institute’s staff.
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and website.
  • Act as the lead writer for communications, collaborate with other internal writers and edit all materials before dissemination.
  • Track, measure and increase the level of engagement within the community.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to refine and hone Shalom Institute’s messaging efforts, developing, and delivering a consistent message.
  • Collaborate on and contribute to creation and production of all organizational fundraising collateral, including brochures, handouts, annual appeal letters and style sheets.
  • Lead on all publicity efforts and manage all media contacts.
  • Oversee website, including content development, maintenance, and updates.
  • Oversee social media, blog, and analytics for Shalom Institute and provide guidance to program staff on social media, blog, and analytics for our signature programs.
  • Coordinate print and online marketing, including advertising listings, and Google Ad Words.
  • Develop and execute proactive public relations campaign to raise visibility of the organization and about new programs to further our mission.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and reports by providing core language to describe the organization and its accomplishments and ensuring that the documents are well organized and persuasive.
  • Oversee summer content strategy, including blog.
  • Lead impact report process.
  • Create, train on, implement and manage communications tools, systems, and policies to ensure brand equity, professionalism, and consistency across communications (eg. style guide, communications calendar, email tracker, guidelines, cross promotional policy, public statement guidelines, top tips on mass emails, etc.)
  • Oversee Jewish content communication calendar and collaboration.
  • Help coordinate communications as Public Information Officer in an incident.
  • Manage outside consultants - graphic design, marketing, public relations, etc.
  • Lead and facilitate regular communications with program and development staff to ensure development, marketing, and communications are in sync.

 Other:

  • Be an advocate to the community, providing information whenever and wherever possible
  • Strategize with other staff members to develop and maintain exemplary programs and offerings
  • Participate in all full staff meetings and retreats
  • Perform office and administrative functions as needed
  • Manage and maintain agency’s mailing list and online dissemination software
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

 Qualifications and requirements:

  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability
  • Highly collaborative style, experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Flexible, able to meet changing work needs and demands
  • Self-starter, able to work independently
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations as well as customer requests and complaints

 Education, training and experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. At least three to five years’ experience in marketing and communications preferably at a manager level.

Knowledge/skills:

  • Working knowledge of content management systems, social media, database and word processing
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately
  • Detail oriented and well organized
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and compassionately with the public
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions in routine situations
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and In-Design preferred
  • Experience managing and navigating database systems

 Supervision:

  • General supervision provided by Chief Executive Officer

 Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position works a typical Mon-Fri, 9 am-5 pm schedule, with weekends and evenings as needed. Shalom Institute’s year-round office is in Malibu on-site at Shalom Institute and there will be office time required onsite. In-person office time will also be required at Shalom Institute’s signature programs sites especially Camp JCA Shalom (summer 2023 at Gold Creek Center in Sylmar) and Shemesh Farms (currently at Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue). A hybrid schedule (including work from home) will be developed with the Chief Executive Officer.

While performing regular duties, you will be required to sit, stand, reach, walk, or kneel, and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.

Compensation

This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $70,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience. The Benefits package includes health and dental insurance, time off for Jewish and secular holidays, program discounts, vacation time, and a defined contribution plan after one year of employment.
