Description

The Leffell School is a dynamic, K-12 independent Jewish school serving approximately 860 students in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City. We emphasize academic excellence, traditional Jewish learning and values, and a strong sense of community. As a result of retirements, the return to Israel of morim shlichim, and the growth of our program, we are seeking an outstanding candidate to fill our High School Tanakh Department Chair for the coming school year at our Upper School, located in Hartsdale, New York:

Our High School is seeking an outstanding, passionate, and experienced Tanakh educator to lead our High School Tanakh Department.

The High School Tanakh Department Chair will lead a talented and committed team of teachers in sharing their love of Tanakh and Jewish learning with our 9th – 12th grade students. The ideal candidate will be a master teacher whose own teaching conveys to students her or his passion for Tanakh and tradition, and models for colleagues the ability to engage and inspire students through challenging classroom learning and the formation of meaningful relationships. Working in concert with our High School Principal, Associate Head of School, and High School Talmud Department Chair, the Tanakh Department Chair will oversee our rigorous program in Tanakh, prioritizing text learning and skill development alongside excitement and joy, and will supervise the teachers in the department. The High School Tanakh Department Chair will also participate as a leader in our Tefilah program and in the life of the school more broadly.

Qualifications: This is a leadership position and candidates should have both day school Judaic teaching experience, as well as several years of departmental leadership experience. Ability to teach in Hebrew will be extremely helpful and a master’s degree in Jewish Education or Bible is preferred; a master’s degree in both education and Bible would be ideal. Generous compensation commensurate with experience.
