Director of Judaic Studies Elementary/Middle

About the Position

The director of  Judaic Studies at Community Day School works with our Rabbi, religion, and foreign language instructional team to design and implement curriculum, differentiate learning as needed, and proactively communicate with parents. Our goal is to create and maintain a nurturing and supportive classroom environment while implementing positive behavior support and classroom management. A supportive administrative team will provide needed guidance and professional development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works in the classroom to support each student’s differentiated academic needs, helping all students access the Judaic Studies and/or Hebrew curriculum.
  • Cultivates joyful Judaism and a love and appreciation for Israel among Jewish and non-Jewish students, parents, and staff. 
  • Works in the classroom to support each student’s differentiated academic needs, helping all students access the Hebrew and/or Judaic Studies curriculum.
  • Develop, prepare, and implement lesson plans based on the curriculum
  • Use results of assessments to inform instruction
  • Collaborate with other faculty members and administrative staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods
  • Prepare lessons that reflect differentiation for individual student needs
  • Represent a positive role model for students reflective of the mission of the school
  • Participate actively and meaningfully in Professional Development opportunities
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to the school philosophy
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College degree in Judaic Studies and/or experience teaching Judaic studies in a school, temple, or camp environment
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Diplomatic, tactful, and possessing the ability to show grace under pressure
  • Empathetic to the needs and different dynamics of families who attend the school
  • Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills; team-oriented
  • Strong organizational skills; self-motivated and responsible
  • Strong educational technology skills preferred, or a strong willingness to learn
  • A reflective practitioner with a growth mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Judaic Studies with an emphasis in Chaverim B’Ivrit
  • Elementary or middle school experience preferred
  • Has served as an ambassador for Judaism in a pluralistic environment

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Education & Instruction Occupations: 5 years (Required)
