Temple B’nai Israel, Oklahoma City
Membership Engagement Manager
About Temple B’nai Israel
Temple B’nai Israel is a reform congregation in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City is the 20th largest city in the U.S. making us larger than cities like Nashville. OKC has great restaurants, museums, healthcare, and education without having smog, congestion, or a high cost of living.
Temple B’nai Israel is celebrating our 120th birthday this year, which means we were founded before Oklahoma even became a state. Over that 120- year history, we’ve had only five Rabbis (come here, you’ll like it), one cantor and just one Soloist/Musician in Residence.
This is the first year we are creating the position of Membership Engagement Manager, a position you can help define and refine with us.
The ideal candidate would be capable of handling both Membership Outreach as well as Programming and Social Media. But consider this a mix and match job opportunity. This Membership Engagement portion could also be combined with our part-time Soloist/Musician in Residence position based on qualifications or could be combined with other positions such as Youth Group Advisor, Sunday School teacher, Hebrew School teacher or receptionist based upon qualifications and interests to increase salary offered.
The Membership Engagement position would work closely with our Rabbi to engage and retain current membership and grow and welcome new members to the Temple community through outreach and programming.
Membership Outreach (Approximately 18-20 hours/week)
- Get to know Temple members and engage with them at least once a year to determine how we can better meet their needs and interests.
- Coordinate with the Caring Committee to reach out to members for critical life cycle events (births, deaths, weddings, divorce, etc.).
- Be a key point of contact and welcome for prospective and new members and help grow the membership base.
- Design and implement membership recruitment opportunities throughout the year (holiday programs in the community, meet n’ greets with clergy, visits to intro to Judaism class, etc.) as well as membership retention programs.
- Handle all administrative duties related to new member intake (approximately 10-15 new households a year).
- Be present and available to congregants at Erev Shabbat services each Friday as well helping coordinate Oneg Shabbat.
- Be available to congregants on Wednesdays for Hebrew school and Sundays for Sunday school.
Programming (Approximately 18-20 hours/week)
- Meet with committee and lay leaders to support ongoing efforts such as Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Adult Education, etc.
- Design, coordinate and implement 3-4 “stand out” community-wide events (Shabbat dinners, holiday programming) over the course of the year.
- Collaborate with the Rabbi to implement adult education programming and develop other new programming opportunities.
- Use social media, website, and other digital and non-digital vehicles to promote programming and other events to inform and engage the Temple (and outreach) community.
- Ideally have basic graphic design capabilities to re-design the Temple Bulletin format and other promotional materials needed.
- Solid writing/editing communication skills.
- Manage budget for programming initiatives
