Description

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, JEWISH CREATIVITY INTERNATIONAL

The Organization

Jewish Creativity International is the fiscal sponsor for 80 independent projects engaged in the creation of works in Jewish arts and culture. As fiscal sponsor it ensures compliance with laws and regulations governing the solicitation and use of donated funds, and provides bookkeeping services for the projects it serves. It was founded in Los Angeles in 1990 as the Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity.

The Position

The role of Executive Director is a part-time, remote position, amounting to 15-20 hours per week. The Executive Director will be responsible for carrying out the management duties which to date have been executed by the Board president. That includes ensuring timely payments to vendors, coordinating tax filings, monitoring legal compliance, maintaining corporate records (including minutes of the semi-annual Board meetings), assessing applicants for fiscal sponsorship, completing contracts with new projects, managing the relationships with partner organizations, and generally overseeing day-to-day operations. Annual compensation: $36,000-$42,000, depending on experience.

The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors through the Board president, focusing on the organization’s financial status, the performance of outside contractors, questions of strategy, and on opportunities for new collaborations.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director represents Jewish Creativity International to internal and external stakeholders. Internally, the Executive Director is responsible for responding promptly to questions from the projects under JCI’s fiscal sponsorship, and for working with outside bookkeeping partners to ensure that the projects have the timely and accurate information which they need to manage their projects. Externally, the Executive Director represents JCI to colleagues and organizations in the arts and in fiscal sponsorship.

Requirements

The Executive Director should have:

  • Substantial experience in non-profit management, including promotion and financial oversight
  • A clear understanding of how nonprofit donations may, and may not, be used
  • Broad familiarity with multiple aspects of Jewish arts and culture, including music, writing, visual art, dance, and theater
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including a high degree of effectiveness in oral, written and visual communication, as well as coaching skills to promote projects’ professional enrichment and growth
  • Successful experience in working with a nonprofit board
  • Collegial, collaborative approach to management, centering on service
