B’nai Shalom of Olney is an egalitarian, conservative Jewish congregation located in north-central Montgomery County, Maryland. BSO serves as a community hub for religious services and holiday events, as well as home to many social groups and educational programs. B’nai Shalom of Olney houses a renowned early childhood school operating 5 days a week for children ages two to five, a brand-new Kindergarten program for ages five to six, an award-winning religious education program for pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, and many active social groups. 

BSO is seeking an Executive Assistant to provide administrative support for synagogue operations, including specific support for the Executive Director and the Rabbi. This position provides individualized customer service to the synagogue’s membership, visitors, Board of Officers and Trustees, Committees and vendors. A friendly and welcoming demeanor as well as a professional appearance is necessary. The Synagogue operation is complex, fast paced, and requires the ability to multitask while remaining organized, managing periods of high demand, while maintaining a calm and responsive presence. The position is the central gatekeeper to the various departments, and is responsible for answering phones and greeting congregants and visitors in a warm and inviting manner. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
-Previous administrative experience necessary 
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, navigating databases and ability to learn new programs 
-Strong oral and communication skills, including ability to communicate sensitively and appropriately to congregants and the greater community 
-Proficiency in social media and basic graphic design.  

-Due to the presence of the ECS, criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.  

 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

-Knowledge of or familiarity with Judaism, including relevant terminology and holidays. 

-Knowledge of Shulcloud 

-Four-year college degree 
 
  
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

Organize and maintain office including inventory of supplies; develop and/or document administrative procedures.  

Track receipt of donations and contributions, record and mail acknowledgement letters.  
  
Provide administrative support to Rabbi and Executive Director, including calendar scheduling and correspondence.  
  
Provide administrative support to Committees and Board as needed, e.g. prepare flyers, and write-up of upcoming events for social media and community distribution.  
  
Answer phones and check email; respond to calls left on message machine and respond to/forward email messages to appropriate parties.  
  
Maintain Synagogue calendar  
  

Pick up and open mail, distribute and forward as appropriate.  
  
Maintain and update membership and email lists.  
  
Electronically create and distribute weekly newsletters and, bulletins, and lifecycle announcements.  

Maintain and update website on a regular basis
