EDUCATORS FOR RIMONIM: A YOUTH & FAMILY LEARNING COMMUNITY AT FTJC

Fort Tryon Jewish Center (FTJC) is an independent traditional egalitarian community in Washington Heights & Inwood, NYC. We are an exciting, emerging congregation, attracting many families with children of all ages. As we continue to develop our grassroots model for “Rimonim: A Family Learning Community at FTJC,” we are growing our capacity to help families raise menschy, knowledgeable, and ethical children who love being Jewish. Being a part of our team is a rare opportunity to innovate and create, drawing on the best current models in Jewish education, in a dynamic community.

RIMONIM TORAH SCHOOL EDUCATOR: 3RD - 5TH GRADE 

  • Primary Responsibilities: Translate Rimonim’s curriculum into engaging and fun lesson plans with creative materials, projects, and different modalities of learning. Teach one class Wednesday afternoons 4-6pm and four Shabbat afternoons. Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents, staff, and clergy. Collaborate with Director of Youth & Family Learning to ensure inclusive and accessible learning environments for all students. Attend and participate in up to four professional development workshops. Regularly update the Director about supply needs, curriculum, arising concerns, etc. and help procure/create, and prepare materials needed for activities/projects
  • Compensation: $150 for each Wednesday 4-6 PM (includes one paid hour of lesson planning and two paid hours on-site). $50 per hour for any necessary training, 4 Shabbat afternoon programs, and 4 paid professional development sessions throughout the year. (Potential to earn approximately $5,000 during our school year.)
  • Our 2025-2026 school year will run September through June.
  • In-person teaching in Washington Heights.

QUALIFICATIONS for ALL POSITIONS

  • Experience in Jewish youth & family education in any settings
  • Knowledge of Hebrew language, Jewish holidays, and core Jewish ideas and practices
  • Flexible and creative ideas and the enthusiasm to make them happen
  • Love of children – able to create bonds of affection that inspire participation
  • Love of Jewish life – able to translate Jewish ideas and practices into conversations and programs with kids and adults of varying observance and knowledge
  • Great relational skills – fun, energetic, and kind, able to relate to diverse children and families
  • Classroom management skills – able to maintain a safe, respectful learning environment
  • Strong professional skills – able to work quickly, independently, collaboratively, and accurately
  • Commitment to FTJC’s values of mitzvah observance and full egalitarianism for people of all genders and sexual orientations
