Overview: Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1,700 households. In non-COVID times, we are bustling with activity: we serve over 200 families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 900 students in our Religious School program and hundreds of people each week who walk through our doors to pray, sing, learn, connect and mark life cycle moments. The Engagement Associate reports to the Director of Membership Engagement and fosters relationships by creating and implementing meaningful opportunities for connection among TRS members, between members and the clergy/staff, and the larger congregational community.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 9-5. Expected to work an average of two evenings and one weekend day per month; flextime offered. The Engagement Associate will be an integral part of the High Holy Days team and will need to be available to work on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Essential Responsibilities
Engagement
• Manage the “Tents” Small Groups that currently engage nearly 800 Temple members
• Coordinate “Spice and Spark” weekly gatherings that bring together various Temple constituencies
• Develop and implement new opportunities for member recognition, celebration, and stewardship
• Connect Temple members looking to get involved with appropriate and meaningful volunteer roles
• Provide program support for the Rodef2100 affinity group
• Produce content for Temple print and digital communications: monthly newsletter, emails and website
• Manage the TRS social media accounts

Membership
• Ensure member data is correct in database (MM2000), including entering and resigning accounts
• Track membership contributions on a quarterly basis; assist with outreach to those in arrears
• Prepare annual reports and identify trends in membership commitment levels
• Provide administrative support to the Membership Committee

Other Duties
• Provide occasional coverage of the Temple’s main phone line
• Serve as part of the Temple’s High Holy Day team
Other related duties may be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor

• Excellent verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with diverse personalities
• Excellent written communication skills, a stickler for accuracy and detail
• Self-motivated, proactive, comfortable working independently, thinking critically and taking initiative
• Comfortable working on a fast-paced team, able to respond to last-minute changes and requests
• Sensitivity to confidential information and the appropriate maturity to exercise discretion
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint); comfortable using a range of software including Zoom and Adobe Suite, and databases like MM2000.
• An understanding of synagogue life, Jewish holidays, and customs is a plus

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 2-3 years customer service, membership, development, or related work experience

Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for 2-3 hours at a time
• Ability to staff programs and events that require long periods of mingling/interacting with people
• Ability to serve in a public-facing role to support temple events as needed
