Oheb Shalom Congregation is excited to search for a service leader and lead educator for our 300-family congregation. This position is open to all and particularly well suited for someone with clergy training. This position will begin July 1 and conclude June 30. We are located in South Orange, New Jersey just a short 35 minute NJT train ride and within walking distance of the train station. At 160 years old we are proud of our long history and that so many multi-generational families continue to be involved and send their kids to our schools. Having just welcomed two new clergy this past year as well as a new education director just a few years ago we are excited and eager for our future as we continue to grow and thrive.
The internship is for 15 Shabbatot (approximately 2 per month) and includes working on the following education programs and services with our clergy and educators:
- Our new Family School program, launching in the fall, will welcome grade school age families once a month on Shabbat morning to pray and learn together in addition to other monthly commitments. This is instead of the children coming by themselves once a week to religious school. This type of program is unique to our area and rare across the country. We are looking for someone to work with us in leading services as well as crafting and teaching the lessons. It is an opportunity for the right candidate to learn what it means to build a community and program from the ground up.
- Our Shabbat Katan program serves our young families who are eager to experience Shabbat worship in a style that engages and excites their young children. We are looking for someone to co-create and co-lead those Shabbat experiences with our long time Shabbat Katan leader.
- Our Zeman Religious School program will begin meeting once per month on Shabbat instead of Sundays this coming school year with the hope that the services will deepen our student’s engagement with Shabbat through experiential and engaging Shabbat worship. We are looking for someone to co-create and lead this monthly service.
The compensation for this position will $10,000-$15,000 for the year based on experience. There is also an option for additional compensation for the High Holy Days. Accommodation and kosher meals will either be provided by the Rabbi or one of our many congregants within walking distance of the shul.
