Position Purpose

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, student billing, and donor-related financial reconciliation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-service focused, and eager to contribute to the mission of a nonprofit Jewish camp organization.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage our camper billing system, working directly with families to ensure accounts are up to date and payment plans are honored.
  • Accurately post transactions and maintain general ledger entries (e.g., assets, liabilities, income, and expenses).
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card transactions.
  • Track and reconcile donations and payments in coordination with our Development team.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end close, including preparation of financial reports.
  • Support audit preparation and assist in implementing internal controls.
  • Partner with camp staff and leadership to streamline financial procedures and improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • 1–3 years of nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, Ramp, Campminder or similar accounting and billing platforms a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact professionally with families and colleagues.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
