Role Overview

Hillel International is seeking an Associate Vice President, Direct Response Marketing and Fundraising to oversee all online and direct mail fundraising and donor-facing marketing at the organization. This includes multichannel fundraising for Hillel International’s annual campaign (approximately 30,000 gifts annually), as well as oversight of our grassroots consulting program that provides digital and direct mail fundraising services to more than 30 campus Hillel affiliates.

Top candidates will be adept at leading high-performing marketing and fundraising campaigns across a variety of different communications channels, including direct mail, email, paid and organic social media, and text-to-give, with a proven track record of exceeding fundraising targets and key performance metrics (KPMs). They’ll also be dynamic thinkers, capable of concepting and pioneering new campaigns, strategies, and giving opportunities. We’re seeking someone who excels at rising to surpass the fundraising objectives of the moment while simultaneously shaping the future of grassroots giving at the organization, and for our campus affiliates.

Applicants should also possess a strong management background as the position will oversee a growing team of nearly a dozen professionals, including direct supervision of three team members. This position will report to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and is fully remote. We’re seeking the best candidates, regardless of where they live and work.

What you'll bring to the job:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in online and direct mail marketing and fundraising
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in marketing, communications, or similar field
  • Strong track record of creating successful multichannel fundraising campaigns across a variety of platforms, including direct mail, email, social media (paid and organic), and SMS
  • Experience managing direct mail and online fundraising agencies and vendors, and maximizing their impact on giving
  • Demonstrated ability to develop urgent and compelling case(s) for support that move donors and prospective donors to give
  • Superior written communication and copy-editing skills, with emphasis on crafting effective solicitations and appeals
  • Expertise with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Experience in audience segmentation and applying recency, frequency, geographic, and monetary giving history to drive strategy and messaging tailored to each audience
  • Experience using CRMs such as Salesforce to segment and analyze audience data to target fundraising campaigns to specific audiences
  • Familiarity using Facebook Business Manager and other digital advertising platforms for direct donation fundraising and/or lead generation
  • Proven record of supervision and management experience
  • Exceptional project management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, colleagues, and external vendors simultaneously under tight deadlines; facility with project management software such as Asana, AirTable, and/or Trello a plus
  • Strong understanding of Jewish history, topics, and themes
  • Familiarity with Hillel, Jewish campus life, and university ecosystem
  • A team-oriented approach to work, a strong work ethic, stellar organizational skills (always meets or exceeds deadlines), a sense of humor, and an ability to take risks and learn from challenges

What you'll own and how you'll spend your time:

  • Lead planning, execution, and analysis of Hillel International’s digital and direct mail fundraising program, meeting and exceeding revenue, gift, and new donor acquisition objectives
  • Oversee the success of key multichannel digital fundraising campaigns, including Giving Tuesday, End-of-Calendar Year, Battle of the Decades, Hillel Global Giving Week, and major Jewish holidays
  • Develop dynamic new multichannel fundraising campaigns and approaches
  • Manage a suite of 3-5 vendors supporting Hillel International’s online giving and direct mail fundraising efforts
  • Grow Hillel International’s monthly sustainer giving program, using direct-to-donate solicitations, automated donor journeys, upsells, and other proven monthly giving tactics
  • Strengthen the top of the Hillel International donor funnel through audience and lead generation strategies
  • Optimize fundraising campaigns for cadence, messaging, and segmentation to maximize income and donor conversion
  • Incorporate A/B testing, personalization, and other marketing best practices to increase ROI of online giving and direct mail campaigns
  • Collaborate with campaign services and communications teams to lead donor stewardship efforts to mass market donor audiences
  • Work across teams to enhance the donation and stewardship experience for Hillel supporters across all mediums, including donation forms using the Jackson River Springboard platform
  • Oversee creation of digital and social media advertising campaigns on Facebook/Instagram and other platforms, optimizing copy, images/video, and audiences for conversion
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental Centennial team to provide supporters with opportunities to participate in the celebration of Hillel’s 100th anniversary
  • Lead a team of a dozen dedicated marketers and fundraisers to meet and exceed annual grassroots fundraising goals for 30+ Hillel campus affiliates
  • Working closely with the Director of Campus Grassroots, hone onboarding, training, evaluation, and quality control of staff to deliver the highest possible services to campus affiliates
  • Manage client relationships with Hillel executive directors representing Jewish life on more than 30 campuses
  • Regularly assess and update key performance metrics (KPMs) to measure impact
