Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to creating
a vibrant Jewish community in northern New Jersey. Federation cares for those in need, deepens
engagement in Jewish life, and strengthens the bonds among Jews in northern New Jersey, in Israel, and
around the world. Our primary functions are community planning and allocations, financial resource
development, and leadership development.


ElevatEd is a groundbreaking pilot initiative bringing together leading Jewish communal institutions and
funders to strengthen the field of early childhood Jewish education (ECJE). The initiative seeks to address
the critical shortage of high-quality, certified early childhood teachers in Jewish settings. ElevatEd is a
partnership of JCC Association of North America, Jewish Federations of North America and the Union for
Reform Judaism. The project is supported nationally by Jim Joseph Foundation, Crown Family
Philanthropies, and the Samuels Family Foundation. With the support of The Russell Berrie Foundation,
Northern New Jersey will begin as one of a cohort of communities that launch in Fall 2025. Each
community has a Community Coordinator who serves as the liaison between the local community and
the national project.


POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Coordinator plays an essential role in establishing a cohesive and healthy ECJE
ecosystem. This professional will be responsible for staff recruitment, educational facilitation, and project
management. They will also serve as liaison to the national ElevatEd team. The role is part-time, 24 hours
per week. The Community Coordinator is supervised by the Federation and will work closely with, and
receive support from, the national ElevatEd staff. The Community Coordinators will join a cohort in a
community of practice with participants from across the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Coordinator will be responsible for work in three discrete roles: Staff Recruiter;
Educational Facilitator and Network Weaver; and Local Project Manager and Administrator:
Staff Recruiter:
• Work with national team and local ECJE directors to support the hiring of up to 30 new educators
in the local community.
• Identify local markets and demographics for teacher recruitment.
• Support directors in recruitment process.
• Learn state policy for credentials and licensing for teachers and substitutes.
• Explore partnerships with local community for substitute coverage.
• Share about ElevatEd at local job fairs and community gatherings.
Educational Facilitator and Network Weaver:
•Support schools and educators as a coach, connector, and resource.
•Facilitate reflection sessions for emerging educators and mentors.
• Support mentors in their work with emerging educators.
•Participate in core curriculum learning with local educators.
•Meet weekly with Community Coordinator community of practice and participate in special trainings for Community Coordinators.
•Visit schools and connect with educators about their experience with ElevatEd.
•Connect ElevatEd to local early childhood initiatives.
•Act as an ambassador for ElevatEd and early childhood to local educational and Jewish communal leaders.
•Partner with national team to create resources to distribute at the local level.


Local Project Manager and Administrator:
•Report to Federation, with accountability to national ElevatEd staff.
•Convene local gatherings with educators (in person / 3x a year).
•Coordinate national staff visits to pioneer community and create an itinerary with meetings that support ElevatEd’s local and national goals.
•Implement the local experimentation grant: convene focus groups, submit the application, prepare the budget, and share data and reflections.
•Take attendance, follow up on absences, and read reflection forms to ensure that educators are participating fully.
•Adhere to all requests from ElevatEd’s evaluation partner Rosov Consulting.
•Administer all ElevatEd payments to local schools.
•Support ElevatEd marketing and PR goals at the local level.
•Preparing content for posting about ElevatEd on Federation’s social media platform.
•Serve as liaison to local funding partners, as needed.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
•Commitment to the purpose of ElevatEd.
•Familiarity with the local ECJE community; existing relationships within the community a plus.
•Network-weaver, connecting people both within and beyond the local early childhood Jewish community.
•Strong oral communication and written skills.
•Ability to take initiative and own a project from beginning to end.
•Strong executive functioning skills.
•Experience with Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, etc.
•Flexible and innovative mindset.
•Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks.
•Willingness to travel throughout the northern New Jersey service area and work a flexible schedule, which may require occasional evenings and weekends.


COMPENSATION The salary for this part-time position is $50,000 (per year). This is a grant-funded position for two years.
