DESCRIPTION OF PARK AVENUE SYNAGOGUE:

Park Avenue Synagogue (PAS) is one of the largest Conservative congregations in North America. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the synagogue includes staff of more than 180 talented individuals, who together with our world-class clergy team, serve a membership of 1,800 households. Our thriving Adult Programming, Penn Family Early Childhood Center, Congregational School, Youth, Teen, and Young Family Education departments provide high quality and inclusive Jewish educational, social, and worship opportunities to our members and the community at large.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

As a full-time educator in the Congregational School at Park Avenue Synagogue your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, curriculum design and planning, classroom teaching, family and parent education, social and holiday programming, Hebrew tutoring, field trips and other off-site programs, regular Shabbat programming, and communication with parents and other stakeholders.

This position is a combination of planning, administrative work, and teaching. There will also be regular opportunities for professional development and mentoring. You will work with a team of educators who collaborate on all aspects of our work. Park Avenue Synagogue is committed to helping you grow and develop as an educator and Jewish professional.

This is a full-time exempt position. General hours of employment will be determined by the Director of the Congregational School and are based on a work schedule of 40 hours per week, 10 months a year. Hours will include when school is in session, evenings, weekends, and holidays during which family engagement opportunities are scheduled. You are expected to work during the high holy days.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, implementing and assessment of curriculum and programs for students.
  • Teach students in a creative and engaging way.
  • Teach on Shabbat and/or Sunday afternoon.
  • Participate in regular communication with parents on students’ progress.
  • Participate in family programming including Holidays, Shabbat and other programs during the week.
  • Collaborate and support part-time educators.
  • Assist with the logistics for programs and events, including assembling materials and the distribution of supplies and materials.
  • Assist with youth and teen programming.Ongoing engagement with staff and congregants to foster a greater sense of Jewish community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous experience preferred, which can include camp, teaching, or similar experience.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral, written and interpersonal).
  • Solid Jewish background, literacy, and Hebrew language decoding and reading .
  • Dedication to teaching and experience working with children.
  • Passion for Judaism and Jewish education.
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility in schedule.
  • Ability to manage a classroom.
  • A connection to/love for Israel.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

The salary for this position is $55,000, and comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, life insurance, PTO, and family/medical leave.
