POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Admissions is an integral member of the VBS community and an active member of the VBS Day School administrative team. The Director of Admissions reports to the Director of Advancement and takes a strong leadership role in the Day School Advancement Department, which encompasses admissions, communications/marketing and fundraising.

The Director of Admissions serves as the welcoming face and point of entry for VBS Day School families. The Director is responsible for Day School admissions marketing, recruitment and enrollment management, new student admissions, student/family retention, and middle school outplacement. In addition, the Director oversees all external Day School admissions marketing and recruitment efforts, and works closely with administrators across VBS schools to cultivate a partnership and ensure strong communication and coordination of activities.

PORTFOLIO

Day School

  • Design and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for recruitment and admission of new students
  • Create and implement events, initiatives and activities intended to interest potential families 
  • Direct the admissions process from point of inquiry through enrollment (including, but not limited to tours, interviews, screening coordination, decision process  and contract signature) 
  • Find new avenues for external recruitment and build and develop the admissions pipeline 
  • Promote strong relationships and create and foster networking opportunities with VBS Early Childhood Center families, outside institutions and groups that can be helpful in attracting quality students 
  • Work in partnership with the Business Office on the tuition assistance program
  • Manage the re-enrollment of current students for the succeeding year with constant monitoring of attrition and retention, ensuring an enriching experience for all students and families
  • Create and implement retention events, initiatives and activities intended to promote a sense of community and connection
  • Oversee parent ambassador task forces and help guide the Day School Board of Trustees and other key constituencies to assist in the admissions and re-enrollment program 
  • Create and present admissions updates to the Day School Board of Trustees and other school leadership groups as requested
  • Work closely with teachers and administrators to ensure successful screening procedures for admissions
  • Manage the Admissions Decision Committee process
  • In partnership with the Director of Advancement, manage and guide the Admissions & Student Services Manager 
  • Manage the admissions budget
  • Create and update admissions materials and forms (in consultation with communications staff and with support from the in-house graphic designer)
  • Represent VBS Day School at various gatherings, events, conferences and other programs related to admissions
  • Other duties as assigned 
QUALITIES OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • A passion for Valley Beth Shalom Day School and it's mission
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a love of building relationships and connecting with others
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, database and spreadsheet skills, and the ability to establish and maintain a variety of record keeping systems
  • Ability to make both quantitative and qualitative executive decisions
  • A self-starter mindset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • A strong team player, willing to wear many “hats”
  • Admissions and marketing experience preferred, but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
