Jewish Student Life Coordinator

Michigan State University Hillel

Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining the Lester and Jewell Morris Hillel Jewish Student Center at Michigan State University as the Jewish Student Life Coordinator. You will partner with students to plan awesome events, ensure that Hillel is a welcoming space for all students, and mentor student leaders and help inspire them to make a commitment to Jewish life.

As a Jewish Student Life Coordinator, you'll reach out to new and under-involved students, building relationships and creating a warm and welcoming environment for Jewish students throughout campus. You'll work hand-in-hand with student leaders to help envision, organize and create engaging opportunities including alternative breaks, programming focused on Jewish peoplehood and culture, athletics, social action and leadership. Each day will look different, and you'll have the freedom to use your creativity and outgoing personality to create an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience and create vibrant Jewish life. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5.

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll actively contribute to shaping MSU Hillel by mentoring and training student leaders.

  • Implement a strategic program planning model to engage a variety of students.

  • Advise MSU Jewish Student Union leaders - guiding them in their programming and leadership development, developing ongoing mentoring relationships with them and attending many student-initiated programs.

  • Meet with students from different cohorts and demographics on campus to engage them, identify their interests and connect them to opportunities.

  • Supervise student interns who are responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life on campus.

  • Organize athletic experiences including intramural sports, an annual matzo-baller 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a competitive broomball tournament.

  • Organize and oversee alternative break experiences.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • 0 - 2 years of professional work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Things may not always go according to plan and you must be willing to take risks and learn your wins as well as your losses.

  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfortable asking questions.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.

  • Belief that our work isn’t done until every Jewish student is connected to Jewish life.

  • Creative problem-solving.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 - $43,000

  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurances, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, parental leave, and a fully paid cell phone plan.

  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities.

  • Travel regionally and potentially abroad.
