The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley is seeking a Head of School to serve our Pre-K through grade 8 school, currently with an enrollment of just under 80. Located in Allentown, PA, the JDS is a pluralistic Jewish community day school with the mission of serving Jewish children and their families from across the spectrum of Jewish life.
The Head of School must be adept at key administrative and personnel management duties and the skills required to oversee the operations of the JDS. He/she should be an experienced classroom teacher with a graduate degree in education, a strong background in Jewish education, and experience working in day school administration. As the chief academic officer of the school, the Head of School will be responsible for both Hebrew and general studies curricula and will serve as a mentor and instructional leader for the teaching staff in all subject areas. The Head of School is also responsible for working closely with the Board of Directors, overseeing fundraising efforts, and managing the staff in charge of outreach, recruitment, HR, and communications.
The Lehigh Valley has a diverse and close-knit Jewish community, and the successful Head of School will be able to work effectively with representatives from local institutions and funding agencies such as the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, the Jewish Community Center, and the local synagogues.
Our school is in suburban Allentown, Pennsylvania's third largest city, just an hour outside of Philadelphia and an hour and a half from New York City. The Lehigh Valley area provides the convenience of access to these major urban centers while at the same time having all the advantages of a smaller city. It is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
