The Brotherhood Synagogue, located on Gramercy Park, is the largest Jewish congregation in downtown New York City with 800 member units. Brotherhood Synagogue Nursery School is a Reggio Emilia-inspired educational environment located within our synagogue. We are committed to fostering a nurturing, creative, and inquiry-driven atmosphere where children’s curiosity and developmental needs are met with respect and care. Our Jewish values guide our daily interactions and provide a foundation for building meaningful community relationships. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Part-Time Assistant Teacher to join our team in our 2’s classroom

Position Overview:
As an Assistant Teacher in our 2’s classroom, you will work closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education and be committed to creating a dynamic, play-based learning experience that aligns with the Reggio Emilia philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in implementing the Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum.
  • Foster a warm, welcoming, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Assist in observing, documenting, and reflecting on children's progress and experiences.
  • Build meaningful relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Provide one-on-one support and guidance to children as they explore and engage in activities.
  • Help maintain a safe and organized classroom.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to plan and prepare materials and activities that align with children’s interests and developmental needs.
  • Encourage independent learning and creativity through hands-on exploration.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children (preferably in a nursery school or early childhood setting).
  • Knowledge of Reggio Emilia principles or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and flexible.

Hours:

  • Part time- Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30-1:00 pm

Compensation:

  • Expected salary range $30,000-$35,000, commensurate with experience.
