Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Organization: Adat Shalom
Reports to: Executive Director
Employment Type: Full-time, exempt
Location: Bethesda, MC
Salary: $60,000 - 70,000

About This Role

We are seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to execute our comprehensive communications strategy, enhance Adat Shalom's public image, and drive engagement in synagogue programming. This role is perfect for someone passionate about non-profit work and Jewish communal life who wants to help create an exceptional synagogue experience for our congregants. You'll work in a dynamic, community-oriented environment where attention to detail, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategy across all channels
  • Collaborate with clergy, professional staff, and volunteer leadership on consistent organizational messaging
  • Maintain brand identity and ensure consistency across all communications platforms

Content Creation & Management

  • Design, produce, and distribute weekly communications, newsletters, and event materials
  • Create and maintain website content, calendar updates, and event listings
  • Develop marketing materials for programs, events, and member engagement initiatives
  • Manage electronic and printed templates for routine communications

Digital & Social Media

  • Manage social media accounts to ensure active and engaging online presence
  • Oversee SEO and digital marketing initiatives
  • Coordinate online registrations and interactive event sign-ups

Collaboration & Support

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and coordinate promotional efforts with team members
  • Support Jewish holiday programming and special events as needed
  • Handle memorial and birth notices, event announcements, and community communications
  • Assist with purchasing marketing supplies and managing promotional budgets

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or related role
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and email marketing platforms (MailChimp)
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Experience with social media management and digital marketing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Comfort with Jewish culture, customs, and basic Hebrew terminology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit or religious organization communications
  • Knowledge of SEO, content strategy, and data analysis
  • Familiarity with Canva and mainstream social media platforms
  • Previous experience working with volunteer leadership
  • Background in event marketing and community engagement
