POSITION SUMMARY

Temple Emanu-El is a place of sacred encounter, where learning, prayer, and deeds change people’s understanding of themselves, their world, and their responsibilities in it. As we continue to shape the future of youth education at Temple, we are seeking a warm, organized, and experienced educator to serve as Interim Director of Religious School for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. The Interim Director will oversee the core aspects of our Religious School program, supervise the Steinberg Center staff team, and thoughtfully implement the various aspects of the Religious School program for this 2025-2026 Religious School year.  This is a Full-Time Interim position, with benefits offered during the term of the position, through May 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in education or classroom teaching.
• Experience supervising a team.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Comfort with scheduling, planning, and navigating logistics.
• Warmth, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee programming for Kindergarten through 12^th grade, focusing on the Religious School and Hebrew learning programs.
• Supervise the staff team and support faculty to ensure a strong, well-supported team of educators.
• Facilitate Sunday preparation meetings when Religious School is in session, and weekly Steinberg Center team meetings.
• Facilitate clear, consistent communication among staff, faculty, and parents to strengthen collaboration and engagement.
• Coordinate logistics, room usage, supplies, and Sunday operations in partnership with Steinberg Center staff team.
• Maintain existing Religious School curriculum and support student experience by ensuring high-quality curriculum delivery, classroom climate, and inclusive practices.
• In collaboration with the Senior Director of Education & Engagement and the Steinberg Center staff team, lead faculty professional development programs, including orientation, in-service, and ongoing education.
• Observe classroom teaching and provide mentorship, coaching, and resources as needed.
• Engage parents of Kindergarten through 12^th graders in both adult learning and family-based educational opportunities.
• Participate in weekly Education & Engagement team meetings and One Team staff meetings.
• Attend monthly Steinberg Center Committee meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by Senior Director of Education & Engagement.
