ChaiVillageLA is part of the rapidly growing Village Movement.  It's not a place; it's a community led by older adults who support each other as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of aging.

ChaiVillageLA was the first synagogue-based Village in the country, a bold partnership of two reform synagogues - Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and Temple Isaiah - created to challenge their congregants to rethink their paradigms of aging and empower them to use their accumulated experience, talents, wisdom and optimism to build a community of respect, support, caring and joy.  Being a synagogue-based Village, ChaiVillageLA aligns itself with the values of its synagogues, the Reform Movement and the wider Jewish community.

About the Position:

Now in its 6th successful year, ChaiVillageLA seeks a dynamic director who will:

  • Oversee all day-to-day functions of the Village and have a close relationship with governing board members as well as members of ChaiVillageLA.
  • Supervise the Program and Administrative Coordinator as well as intern(s) and advise/assist volunteers.
  • Seek out and cultivate future leaders from the Village and synagogue communities through leadership development and guildance.
  • Champion a broad array of innovative educational programs, holiday celebrations, social events and multigenerational programs.
  • Ensure ongoing assessment of members' needs and evaluation of programs and caring services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clergy, staff and lay leaders at the synagogues involved with the Village.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Village to Village Network, Village Movement California, the California Master Plan on Aging and leaders of other Villages.

Essential Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors in the development and implementation of strategic plans including strategies for financial sustainability.
  • Serve as a visionary and inspiring voice to build support for the mission, vision and goals of ChaiVillageLA and the Village movement, which includes developing relationships with other Village leaders, external collaborating organizations and elected officals.

Finance and Development

  • Support the Grants Commitee in researching and writing grant proposals and grant reports.
  • Support the Development Comittee in implementing the Annual Campaign and donor recognition.
  • Support the Finance Committee in developing the annual budget and assist the Treasurer in preparing monthly financial reports to the Board.

Membership and Communication

  • Support the Membership Committee in developing and implementing a strategy for membership growth and retention.
  • Support the Communications Committee in developing and implementing an integrated and dynamic Village comminications plan that encompasses the website, newsletter, calendar and social media.

  • Enthusiasm to guide an organization primarily comprised of a stellar team of volunteers.
  • Passion for the mission of ChaiVillageLA and the issues surrounding ageism and interdependence including respect for the self-determination capacity of active older adults.
  • Empathy regarding social isolation and loneliness.
  • Ability to work effectively with synagogues, Village staff and Village members by building trust, mutual respect and accountability.
  • Self-awareness regarding diversity, inclusion and equity issues.


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite,and communication software and the ability/willingness to learn ChaiVillageLA's platforms for ClubExpress and Constant Contact.
  • Experience in database management, analysis and survey development.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Benefits include group health insurance and premium coverage, 403(B) Tax Shelter Annuity Plan, nine national holidays, eight Jewish holidays and PTO days according to number of years worked.
