Congregation Beth El is seeking a clergy partner to co-lead our community in study, song and spiritual uplift. Our new hire will partner with our energetic rabbi in a number of leadership and support roles. We expect that this person and the role will evolve together. The job description is somewhat flexible; these are the key areas in which we are particularly interested in filling.

Ritual Responsibilities: Collaborate with the rabbi to design and lead innovative and meaningful participatory worship experiences. Work with the Tefillah Committee to recruit and train lay ritual leaders and ensure that Torah and haftarah readers are assigned for weekly services. Partner with the rabbi and lay leaders around special ritual events, including holidays and B'nai Mitzvah services. Collaborate with the rabbi on providing pastoral support to the congregation.

Musical Direction: Engage congregants in participatory prayer and song. Supervise and direct all congregational music programs. Recruit, rehearse and lead singers for our adult choral group and instrumental musicians for monthly musical Friday night Shabbat services.

Education and Religious School Responsibilities: In consultation with the religious school staff and lay leadership, design and participate in musical programming for the religious school community. Work with committees to enhance recruitment and involvement of new/younger families in congregational life. Present regular adult education offerings including seasonal courses related to the Jewish lifecycle and holidays. Teach in the Middle and High School as needed. Collaborate with the staff to bring innovative events and teachers to the congregation in the areas of Tikkun Olam, Social Justice, anti-racism and inclusion.

B'nai Mitzvah Program: Oversight of ritual preparation for B'nai Mitzvah students. Instruct students in Torah and haftarah chanting and provide oversight of tutors as needed. Evaluate students, ensuring that they are fully prepared. Teach adult B'nai Mitzvah students as needed.

Personal Qualities: Empathy and understanding of people at all stages of life. A proven record of teaching a variety of ages and interest groups from the youngest students to the most experienced. Desire to continually expand skills, knowledge and connection to Jewish texts, rituals and traditions. Enthusiasm about being part of a collaborative relationship with the rabbi, the professional staff and the local and synagogue communities.

The successful candidate will help to grow the congregation by making it welcoming to young families while maintaining the spirit and rituals that are key to retaining long-time members.
